A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING ITS INTENT TO PROVIDE
MATCHING FUNDS FOR THE LOCAI; GOVERNMENT COASTAL
MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of Newport: Beach has submitted pre-
applications for grants from the Local, Government Coastal Management
•Improvement Program entitled, "Oil Spill Preparedness" and "Off -Shore
Oil Impact Reduction Equipment" and,
•
WHEREAS, such pre - applications have been qualified by the
Secretary of Environmental Affairs for submittal as draft applica-
tions and,
WHEREAS, applicable regulations governing such draft appli-
cations require inclusion of a letter of commitment for matching
funds and,
WHEREAS, the City's grant request include $50,000 for pre-
paration of an Oil Spill Contingency Plan, $.10,260 for purchase of
oil spill containment equipment, and $263,800 for beach cleaning
equipment for a total of $324,060 and,
WHEREAS, the City's 20% matching funds would amount respec-
tively to $10,000, $2,052, and $52,760 for a total of $64,812 and,
WHEREAS, the Secretary of Environmental Affairs will render
a decision regarding the acceptability of the City's grant request in
May, 1987.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach hereby declares its intention to provide such
matching funds in the 1987 -88 Fiscal Year Budget if the City is
awarded its grant requests by the Secretary of Environmental Affairs
provided however, that budgetary requirements and constraints reasonably
allow the City Council to do so.
