HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-102 - Eventual Ban of ChlorofluorocarbonsRESOLUTION NO. 89- 102- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ® NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING THE FEDERAL AND STATE REGULATION AND EVENTUAL BAN OF THE USE OF CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS WHEREAS, current scientific knowledge indicates a strong probability that chlorofluorocarbons (CPC's), when discharged into the atmosphere affect the ozone layer allowing increased ultraviolet radiation which poses an acute danger to human health, life, and the environment; and WHEREAS, the City supports the Montreal Protocol On Substances That Deplete the Ozone layer (an international pact) which calls for reductions in the production, importation, and exportation of CPC's through 1998; and WHEREAS, the City advocates immediate further reductions beyond the Montreal Protocol Pact limits of the use of CFCs; and WHEREAS, the City encourages governmental agencies and private industry to expedite the development of environmentally safe alternatives to CFCs; and WHEREAS, the City supports all international, federal, and state legislation that will result in an eventual ban of all CFCs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the Council supports international, federal, and state legislation regulating and eventually banning the ® use of Chlorofluorocarbons, and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to execute conveyance of same to the appropriate federal and state entities on behalf of the City of Newport Beach.
