A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT
AN APPLICATION TO THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY
AND THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF GOVERNMENTS FOR
THE CONSTRUCTION OF PEDESTRIAN AND BIKEWAY FACILITIES AND
SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR REGIONAL FUNDING FOR THE
IRVINE AVENUE /UNIVERSITY DRIVE REGIONAL TRAIL BY THE COUNTY
• OF ORANGE (RE. 1993 -94 BB -821 FUNDING PROGRAM)
WHEREAS, SB -821 provides that 2% of each County's total
Local Transportation Fund (LTF) be annually set aside and used to
fund the development of bicycle and pedestrian facilities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has a bikeway and
pedestrian system in conformance with specifications of Caltran's
Planning and Design Criteria for Bikeways in California and the
Regional ; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach desires to construct
the Master Plan bikeway and pedestrian improvements within the
City of Newport Beach;
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach and the County of
Orange have entered into a cooperative agreement to design and
intend to cooperatively construct the Irvine Avenue /University
Drive Regional Trail.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Newport
Beach shall apply to Orange County Transportation Authority and
the Southern California Association of Governments, as follows:
1. To adopt the Bikeway System in conformance with
the specifications of Caltrans' Planning and
Design Criteria for Bikeways in California and the
Regional Transportation Plan.
2. Apply for all funds available to the City of
Newport Beach which are allocated for bikeways and
pedestrian facilities; and
3. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, as
the City's authorized signatory and designated
contact person.
4. To support the application for regional SB -821
funding for the Irvine Avenue /University Drive
Regional Trail by the County of Orange.
