HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-56 - Consolidating 11-2-93 Special Municipal Election• RESOLUTION NO. 93 -56 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO CONSOLIDATE, A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 2, 1993 WITH THE STATEWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION ON THE SAME DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach called a Special Municipal Election to be held on November 2, 1993, for the purpose of submitting the following advisory measure to the electorate: Should the City Council of Newport Beach finance the purchase, improvement, and maintenance of the Castaways and Newporter North properties as recreational and environmental open space through a city -wide assessment district with annual assessments not to exceed: 1. $120.00 per single family residential unit; 2. $102.00 per unit for duplexes or apartments; 3. $90.00 per unit for mobile homes; 4. $120.00 per each 2000 square feet of commercial, industrial or institutional building area. YES /NO WHEREAS, it is desirable that the Special Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide Special Election to be held on the same date and that within the City the precincts, polling places and election of officers of the two elections be the same, that the County Registrar of Voters canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, DECLARED, DETERMINED AND ORDERED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach as follows: Section 1. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 23302 of • the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange is hereby requested to consent to the consolidation of a Special Municipal Election with the Statewide School District Election on Tuesday, November 2, 1993. 1 • • Section 2. The measure to be submitted to the voters of the City of Newport Beach is to appear on the ballot as follows: Should the City Council of Newport Beach finance the purchase, improvement, and maintenance of the Castaways and Newporter North properties as recreational and environmental open space through a city -wide assessment district with annual assessments not to exceed: 1. $120.00 per single family residential unit; 2. $102.00 per unit for duplexes or apartments; 3. $90.00 per unit for mobile homes; 4. $120.00 per each 2000 square feet of commercial, industrial or institutional building area. YES /NO Section 3. That the County Registrar of Voters is authorized to canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. Section 4. That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. Section 5. That the City of Newport Beach recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any such costs. Section 6. That the City Clerk is directed to file a certified copy of this Resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the County Registrar of Voters of the County of Orange. Section 7. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions. 2 • • ADOPTED, this 26th day of July , 1993.
