HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-102 - 804 South Bay FrontRESOLUTION NO. 2010-102 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DESIGNATING THE PROPERTY AT 804 SOUTH BAY FRONT AS A PLACE OF HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE WHEREAS, the owner of the property at 804 South Bay Front has submitted an application to the City requesting that the property be added to the City of Newport Beach Register of Historical Property; and WHEREAS, the owner has demonstrated that the building was designed and constructed by John Latimer, who is recognized within the architectural community as one of southern California's most important architects of the twentieth century; and WHEREAS, the building was constructed in 1980, and remains a significant example of the work of John Lautner and an excellent example of Modernist residential architecture; and WHEREAS, the building possesses all of its significant features and retains a high level of original architectural integrity; and WHEREAS, the building is a rare example in the local community of a work by a recognized master architect and serves as a significant part of the architectural heritage of the City of Newport Beach; and WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Historical Society and the Newport Beach Parks, Beaches & Recreation Commission have reviewed the application and have recommended the property's designation as a Major Historic Landmark (Class 1); and WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Arts Commission has reviewed the application and has recommended the property's designation as a Historic Landmark (Class 2); and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the history of the property warrants its designation as a Historic Landmark (Class 2) under the classification system established by City Council Policy K -2. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby designate the property at 804 South Bay Front as a Historic Landmark (Class 2) and directs the City Clerk to place the property in the Register of Historical Property.
