A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF A FUNCTIONAL CLASSIFICATION
CHANGE FOR TUSTIN AVENUE TO STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, incorporated cities are responsible for initiating requests for changes
to the functional classification of streets and roads under their jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has a Policy to provide residents with measures that
can serve to alleviate traffic speed concerns; and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports the posting of a speed limit of 25 mph on
Tustin Avenue between Santiago Drive and 23`d Street as a means to address the speed
concerns of residents; and
WHEREAS, the California Vehicle Code requires Tustin. Avenue to be
functionally classified as a Local street on the California Road System Maps to allow for a legal
posting of 25 mph;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach that it does hereby approve the submittal for a Functional Classification Change for
Tustin Avenue between Santiago Drive and 23`d Street from Collector street designation to
Local street designation to the State of California, Department of Transportation.
Adopted this 25th day of March, 2014.
