CITY OF <br />NEWPORT BEACH <br />C9C /Fp0.N`P City Council Staff Report Agenda Item No. 18 <br />August 14, 2012 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: City Manager's Office <br />Dave Kiff, City Manager <br />949 - 644 -3001, dkiff @newportbeachca.gov <br />PREPARED BY: Shirley Oborny, Executive Assistant to the City Manager <br />APPROVED: � A <br />TITLE: Appointment of Primary and Alternate Board Members to the Metro <br />Cities Fire Authority <br />ABSTRACT: <br />Consideration of the appointment of a primary and alternate board member to the Metro <br />Cities Fire Authority. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Appoint the Assistant City Manager as the Board Member and the Assistant to the City <br />Manager as the Alternate Board Member to the Metro Cities Fire Authority. <br />FUNDING REQUIREMENTS: <br />There is no fiscal impact related to this item. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The Metro Cities Fire Authority ( "Metro Cities') was created on July 1, 1996, per a Joint <br />Powers Agreement among the Cities of Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden <br />Grove, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Orange. The Metro Cities Authority is <br />set up primarily to oversee a dispatch center for fire and emergency medical services <br />for the member agencies. <br />Pursuant to Section 4.2 of the Joint Powers Agreement, the Metro Cities Board consists <br />of one (1) voting member and one (1) alternate appointed by the governing body of the <br />Member Agency. Each Board member holds office from the first meeting of the Metro <br />Cities Board after appointment and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. <br />
