COMMUNITY SERVICE RECOGNITION AWARDS
The Mayor is authorized to select the mode and style of recognition awards and,
to allow for suitable preparations, shall be responsible for assessing the
merits of various civic contributions and approving appropriate language for
recognition resolutions.
Consistent with the procedure, the following conduct or service shall be a
basis for Council recognition and shall be honored with an official resolution
describing the service of the person or organization:
1. Noteworthy financial or service contributions to the civic affairs of
the community by private citizens or Organizations;
2. Outstanding bravery or meritorious service in a time of crisis;
3. Retirement or the end of employment for appointed municipal officials
and staff executives;
4. Special contributions by employees or Board and Commission members for
effective or extraordinary service during employment or term of
appointment.
Elected officials who have concluded a term of office will be honored as follows:
1. The Mayor, upon conclusion of his term of office will receive a mounted
gavel plaque.
2. A City Council member, upon conclusion of his term of office shall receive
an appreciation plaque.
Board and Commission members:
1. Persons newly appointed to City Boards and Commissions shall receive
a parchment Certificate of Appointment from the City Council.
2. Board and Commission members, upon conclusion of their term of office,
shall receive a mounted Perma- Plaqued Certificate of Appreciation from
the City Council for their service.
Service of employees, Board and Commission members:
1. Employees or Board and Commission members shall receive service pins
for each 'five year increment of service with the City.
Since time limitations do not always permit official Council action, the Mayor
is authorized to issue ceramic City seals, keys to the City or other suitable

recognition symbols on behalf of the City to honor citizens, organizations or
visiting dignitaries under such circumstances as the Mayor may deem appropriate.
A comprehensive record will be maintained by the City Clerk indicating the form
and the text of official Council recognition awards. This record may in turn
be used as a guide for subsequent awards.
Nothing in this policy shall be construed to prevent City Boards or Commissions
from adopting their own policies on service recognition awards consistent with
their activities and responsibilities.
