HomeMy WebLinkAbout(1994, 01/24) - T-1 - Amended - changed to I-18I -18 ART IN PUBLIC PLACES The City Council recognizes the importance and desirability of enhancing and beautifying the public places within the City by the placement of artwork for the benefit of residents and visitors. To that purpose, the Arts Commission shall investigate and periodically recommend to the City Council the purchase and placement of appropriate artworks. Such works may include, but not be limited to those listed on Exhibit "A" attached hereto. Locations for the placement of such artworks may include, but shall not be limited to those described in Exhibit "A" and depicted on the map attached hereto as Exhibit "B." During January of each year, the Arts Commission shall submit to the City Manager's Office a list of projects with estimated costs. Said list is to be considered in the preparation of the next fiscal year budget. The Arts Commission shall confer with other Boards and Commissions that may be impacted by the recommended list of art projects. Funding for this program shall be determined by the City Council and may be derived from Art in Public Places Reserve Fund, Arts Commission events, private donations, or other City funds. Adopted - September 8,1986 Reaffirmed -January 24,1994 Formerly T -1 I -18 Exhibit A A. GATEWAYS: 1. Entrance to Newport Beach from Huntington Beach on Pacific Coast Highway. 2. Irvine Avenue - Back Bay at Costa Mesa /Newport Beach Boulevard Line. 3. Jamboree & MacArthur. 4. Corona del Mar. 5. Corona del Mar State Beach. Prominent artists will be invited to design gateways for these sites. Cost per Gateway: $25,000 - $100,000. B. CROSSROADS: • 1. Newport Boulevard Arches Bridge. 2. Dover Drive Island. 3. Jamboree and Pacific Coast Highway. 4. MacArthur and Pacific Coast Highway. Fountains, murals, sculpture, signage will be located on these sites. Cost: $10,000 - $25,000. C. VIEW PARKS: 1. Newport Theatre Arts Center. 2. Spyglass Park 3. Corona del Mar State Beach. Prominent artists will be invited to design fountains, • 2 I -18 Exhibit A environmental art, sculpture for these sites. Cost: $10,000 - $50,000. D. POINTS OF INTEREST: 1. Cannery Village/ McFadden Square Cannery Village Parking Structure Cannery Village Streetscapes Restroom Relocation - McFadden Square McFadden Square Plaza Promenade and Streetscapes Newport Pier Famous artists will be invited to propose the designs for directional signage, lighting, seating, mosaics, fountains, etc., Cost: $5,000 - 50,000. 2. Balboa Pier Upgrade promenade with decorative benches, lighting, signage, etc. Cost: $5,000 - $10,000. 3. Newport Harbor Art Museum /Library/Auditorium Sculpture, mosaics, pathways, etc. In cooperation with Newport Harbor Art Museum and The Irvine Company. Cost: $5,000 - $100,000.
