O� <br />WHEREAS, by Statutes. of 1931, Chapter 397,, it is <br />provided that not less than the general prevailing rate of per <br />diem wages- for work of a similar character in the locality in <br />which the work is performed, and not less than the general pre- <br />vailing rate of per diem wages for legal holiday and over -time <br />work shall be paid to all laborers,• workmen and mechanics <br />employed by or on behalf of any city in the State of California, <br />engaged in the construction of public works, elolustve of <br />maintenance work; and <br />WHEREAS, it is further provided that the public <br />body awarding any contract for public work on behalf of a city <br />shall ascertain the general prevailing rate of per diem wages <br />In the locality in which the work is to be performed for each <br />craft or type of workman or mechanic needed to execute the <br />contract; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is about to <br />call for bids for the improvement of Seashore Drive and certain <br />other streets and certain property for which an order of <br />Immediate possession and use has been granted by the Superior <br />Court of the State of California, in and for the County of <br />Orange, which notice is to be given pursuant to Statute and <br />Resolution No• of the City of Newport Beach, adopted <br />on the 17 day of 19310 <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Newport Beach hereby declares and states that they have asoertai <br />ed the prevailing rate of per diem wages in the locality in whi <br />the work eontemp3sted is to be performed for each oraft or type <br />CC, workman or mechanic needed to execute the contract, which said <br />E <br />
