RESOLUTION No. 86 -13 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A <br />SERVICE AUTHORITY FOR FREEWAY EMERGENCIES. <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 14 of Division 3 of the Streets and High- <br />ways Code was added by Chapter 1350 of the Statutes of 1985 providing <br />• for the establishment of a Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies <br />L <br />(SAFE) if the Board of Supervisors of the county and a majority of the <br />cities within the county having a majority of the population adopt <br />resolutions providing for the establishment of the authority; and <br />WHEREAS, the Newport Beach City Council finds that a free- <br />way emergency motorist aid system is needed to protect the safety of <br />motorists on freeways; and <br />WHEREAS, the Newport Beach City Council finds that a free- <br />way emergency motorist aid system is needed to reduce the time spent <br />by law enforcement officers responding to routine vehicle disable- <br />ments; and <br />WHEREAS, SAFE will have responsibility for implementing a <br />freeway emergency motorist aid system in the Orange County region; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of <br />the City of Newport Beach hereby requests that a Service Authority <br />for Freeway Emergencies be established in Orange County pursuant to <br />Section 2550 of the Streets and Highways Code. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City <br />of Newport Beach directs that the members of the Orange County <br />Transportation Commission shall serve as the Service Authority for <br />Freeway Emergencies in the County of Orange. <br />Adopted this 10th <br />ATTEST: <br />o <br />`0, <br />day of February , 1986 <br />
