RESOLUTION 93- 8 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT <br />BEACH ESTABLISHING THE NEWPORT BEACH GANG TASK FORCE. <br />WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that street gangs who visit and <br />frequent our City can become involved in criminal activities which detract from the <br />safety and tranquility of our community; and <br />• WHEREAS, the City Council supports efforts from the Police Department and <br />other concerned groups within the community to minimize the impact of street gangs <br />and discourage their activities; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish a Newport Beach Gang Task <br />Force to advise the City Council in matters pertaining to the organization, activity and <br />presence of resident or non - resident gangs and gangsters within or near the City <br />boundaries. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Newport Beach hereby establishes the Newport Beach Gang Task Force as follows: <br />MEMBERSHIP - Nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the full City Council. <br />1. Two (2) members of the City Council. <br />2. Two (2) at -large members with broad community experience. <br />3. A member representing the Newport-Mesa Unified School District <br />Board of Trustees. <br />STAFF SUPPORT - The Committee shall be supported primarily from the Police <br />Department and as necessary by the Deputy City Manager. <br />DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS - The Newport Beach Gang Task Force shall seek <br />to: <br />1. Remain informed of the gang problem by gathering information from <br />public and private sources. <br />2. Provide an interface with the Newport Mesa Unified School District in <br />order to develop a coherent and cohesive partnership with the City in <br />an effort to discourage the formation of gangs within the school system. <br />3. Report to the City Council quarterly or more frequently as required on the <br />work of the Task Force. <br />4. Recommend to the City Council the adoption of ordinances, resolutions, <br />rules and regulations and to enhance community awareness in order to <br />prevent gang activity. <br />5. Perform other duties relating to gang activity as the City Council may <br />request. <br />TERM - The Newport Beach Gang Task Force shall continue to function until <br />such time as its service is no longer determined necessary by the City Council. <br />ADOPTED this 8th day of February 1993. <br />• iYOR <br />ATTEST <br />'\1 <br />CITY CLERK <br />
