I’ve been a Newport Beach resident for 39 years and I currently live on Lido Island. I and my family believe a dog park would serve the community well, along with open space. The nearest dog park is located near the OC Fairgrounds. We never visit it due to its proximity. There are many, many local dog owners whom, we are certain, would use a local dog park regularly. Thank you for your time and courteous consideration of our opinion. The Superior/PCH intersection is particularly dangerous to pedestrians due to the speeding downhill Superior traffic being permitted to turn right on a green light to go West while the rest of the downhill traffic is stopped at the red light. Solution: Expand the current Superior parking lot to at least double the capacity. Build a pedestrian bridge over Superior between the old and expanded parking area. Negotiate with Hoag Hospital for an East parking lot exit by the Hoag generating plant to reach the traffic signal at PCH/ Hoag to permit East or West turns. A children's play area, picnic tables, and restrooms would be nice as well. Once there is parking on the Sunset Ridge side, it is going to get crowded. Even though we are unable to attend the meeting on 4/4/17 when the above project will be discussed, we would like you to know that whatever goes into that area will have a profound effect on our lives. We live across Superior in Newport Crest and we do like very much what the city has done so far in the upper area of that park. So we hope your decision will include: 1.Our most preferred choice : Open space + extending the existing parking area. 2. Exercise circuit + Parking expansion may be our second choice - if there is enough demand for it. 3. But -please please do not waste this lovely spot on a dog park which will cause more noise and disturbance to residents close by who do not even have dogs and are already affected by the noise of the trucks, buses and motorcycles traffic on Superior. Dog owners already have plenty of space to walk their dogs. Some do not even pick their dog waste which causes health issues for other residents. 4. Restrooms and play equipment are already available in Sunset Ridge Park and enhanced pedestrian access into that park are already planned. Thank you very much for your consideration. My wife and I are opposed to these Ped/bike bridges because walking up and down each bridge steps to cross the street wont be easy and dangerous to climb, and we would rather just cross safely the way it is now. I don't feel it will be used enough (much like city halls bridge) to justify this big expense in money. The vandalism and maintenance of this visually ugly non necessity will cost a lot. Would rather see this money put into lighted crosswalk signals crossing the peninsula streets which is much more dangerous and would cost less. Thank you for your suggestions. Andrew Hernandez 240 Nice Ln. NB 92663 BENCH DONATIONS – END OF THE 300 BLOCK OF JASMINE – EMAILS Leilani, would you please forward this to the members. Thanks. Nancy Dear Commissioners: On April 4 you will consider the placement of a bench in the pocket park at the end of the 300 block of Jasmine, CdM. I am one of the closest neighbors to the park, and I want to express my support for this project. It will be a lovely addition to the park as well as a wonderful memorial to a young man whose family lives next to the park. Nancy Gardner
