Chairman Steve Rosansky called the meeting to order at 8:06am.

1. Minutes of May 17, 2006
Motion: To approve the minutes as written.

DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. Balboa Theater Update
Mary Lonich, Executive Director of the Balboa Theater, gave a video presentation update on the
theater:
Design of the theater
• 325 seats
• Focus on venue, not production
• 160 days of operation per year
• Corporate functions
• Plans currently at the Coastal Commission
• Niche is support and collaboration with major players in the Orange County
Performing Arts
• Connection with surf and surfing film industry because of unique location
• Revised executive board and advisory council
2. 2006 Newport Beach Film Festival Report
Gregg Schwenk, Executive Director of the Newport Film Festival, reported on the 2006 film
festival and some of the following highlights:
• Nearly 500 room nights booked
• 36,000+ ticketed attendees
• Henson Production
• Youth Festival
• Sports and surf connections
Foreign films
• Promoting of Newport Beach and Newport Beach Film Festival
3. EQAC Representative's Report
Cris Trapp provided EQAC's comments on the draft EIR for the General Plan Update.
