City Hall, Newport Beach, July 9, 1923.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in
regular adjourned session at 7 :30 o'clock p.m. on above date. The
meeting was called to order by President J. J. Schnitker.
In the absence of the Clerk, Trustee Geo. P. Wilson was
appointed Clerk pro tem.
The roll was called showing the full Board present.
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was
dispensed with.
Leer H. Wallace reported for the committee appointed to loos:
up the property of Mrs. Copeland, and stated that the matter would be
taken up and the price fixed by .Irs. Copeland the last of the month.
The communications were read and referred to the proper order
of business.
A request to cut holes in the wharf for fishing •was.referred
to the City Engineer and I;Ir. B., P. Porter.
ORDIN,;IdCE NO. 234, amending Sections 1, 2 and 6 of Ordinance
No. 180, was taken up for final consideration; the roll was called
and the Ordinance passed by the following vote:
Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan, Geo. P. Wilson,
Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson.
Noes, Trustees None.
Absent, Trustees None.
President J. J. Schnitker declared Ordinance No. 234 adopted.
Attorney Clyde Bishop submitted frame work of lease to be
entered into with the Patterson Lumber interests. The same was
discussed and referred back to the City Attorney to be brought up at
a later date.
On motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee L.S.
Wilkinson and carried, a request for a sixty day extension by the
California Construction Co.. or Uontract No.15, was granted.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee H.
C. Sloan and carried, the Board a- gthorized the purchase Bf the
following equipment for the use of the City Publicity Agent: One steel
four draLyer filing cabinet with lock, one flat top desk and one
typewriter.
This being the day and hour set for opening bids for the
Jail building, the.Comfort Station at East Net ^rport and a Comfort
Station at Balboa, the Clerk proceeded to open the same, which bids
are as follows:

Comfort Station at Balboa,. - - - - - - - 9,973.00
Comfort Station at East Newport, - - - - - 2,500.00

On motion of Trustee H. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee L.S.
Wilkinson and carried, all bids were rejected and the Check for
s ?1,000.00 to be returned to the bidder.
On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee H.C.
Sloan and carried, the Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for
the City Jail as per plans and specifications on file at the City Hall,
Newport Beach; also for the Comfort Station to be erected at the shore
end of the Newport pier, as per plans and specifications on file at the
City Hall, Newport Beach, or in the office of Corwin & Irlerrill of
Los Angeles.
On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee L.S.
Wilkinson and carried, the Clerk was instructed to employ a Deputy to
assist in getting out the assessment roll.
On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Geo.
P. Wilson and carried, the demand of the Assmciated Chambers of
Commerce of Orange County for 5250.00 for the exhibit at the I "otion
Picture Exhibition in Los Angeles, was allowed.
On motion of Trustee H. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Conrad
Richter and carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:3Q o'clock p.m. on
I.Ionday, July 16, 1923.
