City Hall Newport Beach, Calif.
July 6th,1925
The Board of Truste s of the City of Newport,.8each met in regular session
on the above date, at :30 o'clock P.M.
The meeting was cal ed to order by Pres.Geo.P.Wilson
The roll was called showing a full Board present'.
Reports of e s of Departments were read, approved and ordered filed.
Special Cormittee Reports.
Trustees Sloan and Young reported on the lighting situation and stated
that they had been assured by Dale Peters of kka Huntington Be::ach that
better service would be given to Newport Beach and that the local repre-
sentative,Mr.Trunpey would have his telephone number in the book. On motion
of Trustee Richter seconded by Trustee Wilkinson and carried the report
of the committee was accepted and the committee continued to keep in.touch
with the situation.
Opening of Bids.
This being the hour set for opening of Bids on the Landing concession
on the Balboa Pier, the City Clerk publicly opened and read all bids re-
ceived, to wit: The bid of Dr.Chas,Ervin. On motion of Trustee Young
seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried the Landing concession on the Balboa
Pier was awarded to Dr.Chas.Ervin according to the terms of his bid.
The bid having been awarded the matter was referred to the City Attorney
to draw up the contract.
This being the hour for the opening of bids on �arbage dump track,all
o
bids having been received up to the hour of 7:30 clock P.M. were publicly
opened and read by the Clerk. One bid was received from O.A.Haley,Inc. said
bid containing the following price for the truck to -wit:
For one Garbage Truck described according to Notice inviting bids,
total price $9449.63 , which price included interest at the rate of 7% per
annum up to and inclidung Dec,l, 1925 at which time payment is to be made
for the truck by the City.
This being the only bid received, on motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded
by Trustee'Sloan and carried, the bid was referred to the Street Superinten"
dent for his recommendation and report.
Application of Ben Cope to construct a pier in front of Lot 4 Block'l
of Section l,Balboa Island was approved to the will of the Board and the
approval of the City Engineer.
'A complaint received from Lew H.Wallace,' adm. of the W.A.Trwin Estate
regarding the removal of dirt from the road along tract #444 was referred
ti to the Street Superintendent witK- instructions to post signs prohibiting
the removal of dirt in the above described district.
The estimate of Mr.Harry Welsb, City Publicity Manager, for an expen-
diture of `220.00 for advertising during the month of July,1925 was approv-
ed and on motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee young was car-
„ ried that amount was ordered set aside from the advertising fund.
A report of the Department not Commerce regarding aids to navigation
to be installed in Newport Harbor was read and ordered filed*
was received
A requesttyrom Fire Chief Jackson for various improvements for,the fire
department. a communication carried with it the suggestion that the im-
proments be paid for by a'Bond Election to be called as soon as possmble.
There being no objection the communication was ordered filed for reference
at a future date.
A petition signed by 35 residents of Newport Beach, pretesting against
' Ordinance # 276 was read and ordered filed for reference.
A communication was received from John R.Huflin of Los Angeles protest-
ing the further use of property in West Newport for an Oil Field.
There being no objection , the communication was ordered filed and the
Clerk ordered to reply.
A communication from K.I.Fulton of Corona Del Mir, protesting the raise
in the price for Water Taps in the City of Newport each was read, and on
motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young hnd carried, the commu-
nication was ordered filed and the Clerk was ordered to reply.

The application of Ben Cope to construct a pier in front of Lot 6
Block 2, Balboa Bayside' Tract for Luticia Link letter was referred
to the City Engineer for the usual two weeks.
A communication from Ben Cope offering the City the use of a new
Barge equipped with a pump and fire hose connections was read. The
offer was accepted and a vote of thanks was given Mr Cope;
On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young and carried
the Clerk was ordered to'make the following transfer of funds as recom-
mended by the City Treasurer.
On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried
the demands as approved by the finance committee were allowed and war-
rants ordered drawn.
There being no further business on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded
by Trustee Wilkinson and carried the meeting was adjourned to 7:30
o'clock P.M. Monday July 20, 1925.

The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular
session on the above date. The meeting was called to order by Pros.
Geo.P.Wilson. The roll was called'showing the full board present.
Trustee Richter, reporting for the committee appointed to look into
the action of Axia: Goodykoonts who recovered two bodies from the Bay
on July 3rd, reported the recommendation on the committee was that an
effort be made to procure a scholarship from the Carnegie Hero Fund
Commission; On motion of Trustee Wilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan
and carried the report was accepted, the committee discharged and the
City Clerk was ordered to write to Carhegie Hero Fund Commission,stating
the facts of the case and applying for a scholarship for Miss Goody -
koontz.
On motion of Trustee Young, seconded by Trustee Sloan and carried
Geo.C.Heiner was granted a three year expension on his Bait Concession
on the Newport Pier. The new lease to be $70.00 per month for the months
of June, July, August and Sepjtember.
Water Bond First Reading. Resolution No. 337.
Trustee Conrad Richter introduced a re solut @on entitled as follows:
A resolution of the City of Newport Beach, a municipal corporation ineor
porated under the laws of the State of California, by its Board of Trust
tees, as the legislative branch thereof, determining that the public
interest and alsRR the public necessity demands the completion by the
City of Newport Beach of the M=Ioipal Water Works of said City, and
that the same is'necessary and convenieht to carry out the objects,py'rft
poses and power§ of the muni6ipglity the cost of which will be too
great to be paid out of the ordinary income and revenue of the City of
Newport Beach.
This resolution was ordered filed, read, considered,designated
Resolution No. 337 and passed to the second reading.
The request of A.W.Jackson, Fire Chief for additional equipment and
a telephone for the fire hall, was referred to the Fire and Water Commit -
tee.tith power to act.
