On motion of Trustee ;!ilkinson, seconded by Trustee Sloan, and carried, the demands as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and warrants ordered drawn. City Attorney Bishop reported to the Board of Trus- tees that there had been X1500.00 on deposit at the Orange County , Title Company ;for several years to take up the bonds on the property of the gas company, thereupon, the Clerk was instructed to get in touch with the people who owned the bonds and see if the date of maturity on the bonds could not be advanced. On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried, the President and Clerk were authorized to sign a lease for three pipe crossings over the Pacific Electric right of way, said lease to be $3.00 a ,year. On motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young, and carried, the application of Stroud Bros. & Seabrook for a 60 day extension on their contract was granted. Y.r. J. A. Porter, City Treasurer, requested the City Attorney to draw a form of notice for advancing maturity date on Sewer and paving bonds in connection with moneys of deposit de- rived from interest advanced by persons paying off sewer and paving liens. I::r. Porter stated that there was enough money in the treasury to take up at least one bond. There being no further business, on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee ' ?ilkinson, and carried, the meeting was adjourned to February 15, 1926;7 :30 o'clock P. The Board of Trustees of the City of Yewport Beach, ' met in regualr session on the above date at 7 :30 P. The roll. was called showing full board present. J.11inutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Communications were read and referred to the pro- per order of business. A letter was presented to the board ^!hich had been addressed to Yrs. Earie A. Bernhard from Carnegie Hero Fund Com- mission in regard to an act of heroism which was performed by her hus- band on Yay 21, 1925, in which he lost his life. The city clerk was• ordered to send the Carnegie Fero Fund Commission all available data on the drot--ming of I.Sr. Bernhard and a certified copy of the minutes. of the meeting of the board in which they recommended an endowment for ...rs. Eernhard., This being the hour set for the opening of bids on 325 certain pipe, fire hydrants and appurtenances as advertised in notices to contractors. All bids were read, considered and referred to the committee as a whole and the water superintendent for consideration and report February 22, 1926. ORDINANCE NO. 291 Trustee Sloan introduced an ordinaee entitled as ' follows: An Ordinance of the City of Newport Beach ordering the widening in part of Central Avenue, a public street in said city, directing an action to be brought in Vie Superior Court of the State of California, in and for the County dig Orange in the name of the city of Tiewport )3each, for the condemnation of the property necessary or convenient to be taken therefore, and referring to ordinance of In- tention No. 283 for all particulars. The ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, designated Ordinance No. 291 and referred to the City Attorney. ORDINANCE NO. 292 Trustee Ric'zter introduced an ordinance entitled as follows: An Ordinance of the City of p?ewport Beach declaring that the water supply owned by slid city is in excess of the amount of the amount of water required to srpply the water required by the in- habitants of the city of liewport Beach: That the Board of Trustees propose to contr -ct for the sale of such excess of water, but for not longer than one -year, and further providing that such excess of crater shall be sold only at the rate fixed for consumers inside the corporate limits of the city of Newport Beach. The Ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, des- , ignated Ordinance No. 292 and referred to the city attorney. Trustee Sloan introduced an ordinance entitled as follows: ORDINANCE N0. 293 An ordinance of the board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach declaring vacant for public street purposes a por- ti4n of Olive Street, Sonora Street and certain alleys within said city. The ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, designated Ordinance 293 and passed to the second reading. City Enginerr Paul Kressly reported to the Board of Trustees that in the matter of a bulk head along the canal of Section 5 Balboa Island. The I.iasonic's homes were in favor of the construction of a concrete bulk head. ;'e reported that i,ir. ? arvez,- w1-.o also oc,ns 81 lots on Section 5 was in favor of the improvement but that it was the opinion of :r. Harvey that it would be better to Trait until more dredging had been done on the Harbor as it was the intention of the Harvey interests to raise the level of their pre - perties on Section S. i.r. Kressly estimates that the improvement would cost 123.50 per foot. There being no objections the matter was left in the hands of the city engineer to see parties interested and find, whether or not, further action was desired at this time. City Engineer Kressly reported that in the matter of improvement of certain streets on Corona Del I'ar that all parties interested were now agreed upon the plan as presented by '-r. Kressly for the improvement. The matter teas discuss -d and upon notion of Trustee Sloan seconded by Trustee Young and carried. The city en- gineer was instructed to draw plans and specifications for the im- prove -,ent, compile a careful estimate of the cost of the proposed im- prove -ent. City Engineer Kressly presented tentative plans for the condemnation of a certain portion of Carnation Ave. Corona Del I.'ar. The plan was discuss ,.d and left in the hands of the Cit-- n- gineer. 326 C Trustee Young brought to the Board's attention the fact that the lease of the Rogers Bros. for a landing privilege on the Balboa pier was not exclusive according to.the terms of the lease. The mater was discussed, the lease was amended and on motion of Trustee Sloan seconded by Trustee Young and carried, the lease was approved as amended and the president and clerk authorized to sign the lease in behalf of the city of A.ewport Beach. A communication addressed to 'r. J. A. Forter, in regard to the adjustment of the assessment of Lot 13, Block 17 Section ' 73, was referred to the city clerk for investigation and report. A communication having been read from F. Daley, water superintendent in which he requested aut-ority to purchase 1000 meters for the coming rear on motion of Trustee Sloan, seconded by Trustee Young and ca- .ried. The :-rater superintendent eras authorized to purchase meters in such quantities-as the city,* was able to pay for and if witl)in the --ear, 1000 meters had been purchased that the .rater superintendent have an understanding with the company that a rebate would be ;;ranted the city of ;?ewDort Beach on the thousand meters. Communications were received from Clifford B. Story, Balboa Island and E. 7,. Nickerson for the an- plic -.tion for the office of city clerk to take the place of the present incumbent, there being no objections the conumunications were referred - to the committee as a whole. 1+ motion of Trustee Voung seconded by Trustee ' : :ilkinson and carried, the demands as approved by the finance committee were allowed and warrants ordered drai %n. Irir. Cf. E. Burris reported that the Pacific Electic Railway Company was willin., to give the city of Yewport Beach rights of way across their property at Orange, 57th and 46th Streets, the clerk was ordered to write the Pacific Electric Railway Company requesting that these rights of 'way be given the City of Newport Beach as soon as possible.
