HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-15-1926 - Special Meeting353 Trustee Harry H. Williamson introduced an ordinance amending certain sections of Ordinance No. 4 of the City of Newport Beach. The ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, designated Ordinance No. 303 and referred to the City Attorney. Trustee Fred W. Young introduced an ordinance amending certain sections of Ordinance No. 268 of the City of Newport Beach. The ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, designated Ordinance No. 302 and referred to the City Attorney. The City Clerk was instructed tto write to Fire Chief Jackson ' that the amount of his salary would have to remain the same as it is until the budget is made up for next year. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, the demands which were in due form and approved by the Finance Committee, were allowed and warrants to be drawn for same. The unsigned demands were to be allowed when properly signed. Water Superintendent Daley brought up the matter of church parsonages paying for city water, which was discussed, and decided that churches and parsonages should both pay for the water used. On motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, a proclamation was to be issued calling upon all citizens to get out and vote at the Harbor Bond election. There being no further business on motion of Trustee Fred W. Young seconded by Trustee Felix B. Modjeska and carried, the meeting adjourned Sine Die. 41r - en oar o Tsle—es. Approved, July 5. 1926. The meeting was called to order by President Conrad Richter. The roll was called showing all members present except Trustee Fred W. Young. The notice of the call of the meeting was read as follows: NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH IS CALLED FOR THE HOUR OF 5:_15 O'CLOCK P. M. OF TUESDAY, JUNE 15, 1926 IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE CITY HALL THEREOF, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSIDERING: 1ST. CONFIRMING APPOINTMENT OF AUSTIN BROWN AS BUILDING AND PLUMBING INSPECTOR. 2D. LEASING THE NEWPORT PAVILION AS TEMPORARY BATHHOUSE. 3D. PROPOSED PIERWORK OF BEN COPE. 4TH. APPROVAL OF MAPS OF DR. SOILAND AND J. H. MACKLIN. ' The matter of Building and Plumbing Inspector was discussed, and on motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee L. S. Wilkinson and carried, Austin Brown was appointed to fill the office until the return of Eugene Fenelon who is on a 'vacation. As the only bathhouse in Newport end of town burned recently, the matter of leasing the Newport Pavilion for a temporary bathhouse was discussed, and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, a lease was to be drawn up by the City Attorney with Mr. W. McKay for the summer season including July. August and September at a nominal rental of $15.00 per month; he to return the building in as good condition as when he took it, the building to be used for bathhouse purposes only, all other business to be excluded. 354 The application of Ben Cope for permission to build a pier for Geo. P. Edwards in front of Lot 4, Block 1,.Section 2, Balboa Island on motion of Trustee L. S..Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Harry H. Williamson and carried, was referred to the City Engineer for report after the customary two weeks. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Felix B. Modjeska and carried, the Maps of Dr. Soiland and J. H. Macklin were referred to the City Planning Commission for a recommendation. There being no further business on motion of Trustee Harry H. M. OF MONDAY, JUNE 21, 1926, IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE CITY HALL THEREOF, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSIDERING AND TO ACT.UPON THE TERMINATION OF THE ADVERTISING MANAGER, AND TO CONSIDER WAYS AND MEANS OF LOWERING THE TAX RATE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, OR ANY OTHER BUSINESS THAT MAY PROPERLY COME BEFORE THE MEETING. The matter of whether it was advisable to retain the Advertising Manager longer was discussed at length, and on motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Felix B. Modjeska and carried, the matter of the call on this point was allowed to go over until after the meeting of the Board with the Committee appointed by the Orange County Harbor Chamber of Commerce for tomorrow night. The matter of the advisability of raising the valuations on the tax.roll and lowering the tax rate was discussed, but as no definite action could be taken until the Board meets as a Board of Equalization, the Chair was instructed to appoint a Committee to obtain from Auditor Briggs, the equalized assessed valuation for 1925 -26, the equalized assessed valuation for 1926 -27; the total out- standing bonded indebtedness on municipal bonds; the total outstanding indebtedness on the 1915 Act Bonds; the total outstanding indebtedness on the 1911 Act Bonds, and if possible, to get the amount necessary to repair the jetty, for the Board of Equalization when they meet the ' second Monday in August. There being no further business on motion of Trustee Harry H. Williamson seconded by Trustee Felix B. Modjeska and carried, the meeting adjourned.
