Newport Beach, September 30, 1936.
A Special meeting of the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach was held in the City Council Chambers of the City Council at the
City Hall in the City of Newport Beach, California at 1 o'clock P.M. on
above date with Mayor Williamson presiding.
The roll was called, the following Councilmen, responding; Gordon,
Whitson, Garfield, Williamson. Absent, Councilman: Claire.
The call for the Special Meeting was read, said meeting being
called for the purpose of considering additional harbor dredging and
'representation at a hearing before the River and Harbor Board in Washington
D.C. On motion of Councilman Whitson, seconded by Councilman Garfield and
carried, the call was ordered filed.
City Engineer Patterson advised the Council of the result of a
meeting with the Board of Supervisors of Orange County, where it was
deemed best for the County of Orange and the City of Newport Beach, acting
jointly in defraying the expenses, to send representatives to Washington
D. C. for the purpose of presenting the matter of further Harbor improve-
ment to the Rivers and Harbor Board.
Lew H. Wallace addressed the Council concerning the matter, and
urged that more than one representative be sent to Washington on behalf
of the County and City in an effort to secure additional funds for further
Harbor improvement.
After considerable discussion it was moved by Councilman Whitson,
seconded by Councilman Gordon and carried, that the City of Newport Beach
join with the County of Orange in sending two representatives to Washing-
ton D. C. to appear before the Rivers and Harbor Board on October 20, 1936
with a view of securing the endorsement of said Board for the further
development of Newport Harbor.
All business having been transacted for which the Special meeting
was called, it was moved by Councilman Whitson, seconded by Councilman
Garfield and carried, that an adjournmept be taken Sine Die. .
