HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/09/1946 - Regular Meeting447 December 9, 1946 The City Council of the City of Newport Beach met in regular session in the City Council Chambers at the City'Hall at the hour of 4 o'clock p.m. on above date with Mayor Reed presiding. • The roll was called, the following Councilmen answering present: Allen, Isbell,Robertson, Reed. Absent: Councilman Siler. The Mayor asked if any of the Councilmen or amyone in the audience wished the minutes of the previous meeting, or any part thereof, read; no one responded and the reading of the minutes was dispensed with. REPORTS OF HEADS OF DEPART14ENTS ' The report of the City Treasurer was read, and on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Isbell, and carried, the report was ordered filed. The reading of the reports of other departmental heads was dispensed with and all the reports ordered filed. Due consideration of the protest having been accorded the petitioners prior to the meeting it was moved by Councilman Arlen, seconded by Councilman Isbell and carried, that the petitions be filed. On motion of Council- man Isbell, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, the matter was referred to the City Engineer to investigate and assist, if possible, in complying with the request. MINUTE RESOLUTION Councilman Allen moved the adoption of a resolution, being a resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute on behalf of the City of Newport Beach a certain agreement by and between the City of Newport Beach and Laura Sample for #n exchange of real property, and further authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign a grant deed in favor of Laura Sample for the property exchanged for that embodied in Resolution No. 3412, said exchange of properties being in connection with the widening of Coast Boulevard. The motion for adoption of the resolution was duly seconded by Councilman Isbell and was passed by the following roll call vote, to wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Allen, Isbell, Robertson, Reed NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT, COUNCILMAN: Siler The monthly Demands having been duly audited by the Finance Committee were on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Isbell, were allowed and Wanants ordered drawn by the following roll call vote, to wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Allen, Isbell, Robertson, Reed NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT, COUNCILMAN: Siler The application of J. C. Stuard for a permit to install a pier fronting on Lots 5 and 6 andBlock 240, Canal Section, having been approved by the City Engineer, was on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Isbell and carried, granted. The application of John P. Hormen for a permit to install a pier fronting on Lot 3, Block 436, Canal Section, having been approved approved by the City Engineer, was on motion of Councilman Robertson, seconded by Councilman Isbell and carried, granted, subject to the approval of the Velar Department. The application of G. P. Sawtelle for a permit to install a pier fronting on Lot 27, Block 802, Harbor Island, having been approved by the City Engineer, was on motion of Councilman Isbell, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, granted. The application of Dukette, Roos and LaShelle for a permit to install a pier and floats fronting on Lot 4, Block 3, Balboa Bayside, having been approved by the City Engineer, was on motion of Councilman Robertson, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, granted. The application of K. P. Kendall for a permit to install a pier fronting on Lot 243, Tract 907, having been approved by the City Engineer, was on motion of Councilman Robertson, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, granted. City Attorney Thompson advised the Council regarding a suit filed against the City by R. M. Hixon and on motion of Councilman Robertson, seconded by Councilman Allen and carried, the City Attorney was authorized to defend said action against the City. The request of the Cooperative Fishermen's Association for a permit to install underground storage for the handling of petroleum products at 20th Street and Bay Front was on motion of Councilman Robertson, seconded by Councilman Isbell and carried, granted. Engineer R. L. Patterson presented an application for permission to construct a bulkhead around a certain island, known as Cagney Island. A sketch of the proposed improvement was also submitted and on motion of Councilman Allen, seconded by Council- man Robertson and carried, the matter was referred to the Harbor Committee. n u 0 NEW BUSINESS Res.
