Wkat are Public Healtk Goals? i0i0o*' J •Public Health Goals (PHGs) are water quality values established by Cal/EPA • Unlike the Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) that water systems are required to comply with, PHGs do not consider analytical detection capabilities, available treatment technologies, benefits or costs. • PHGs are non -enforceable and are not required to be met. • PHGs are goals identifying extremely small risks that are posed by constituents tested in potable water. C,9ClFORNP RecommeKdatiovis for Furtker Actiovt The City's drinking water meets all State and Federal drinking water quality standards set to protect public health. • To further reduce the levels of the constituents that are already significantly below the health -based Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) established to provide "safe drinking water", additional costly treatment processes would be required. • The effectiveness of the treatment processes to provide any significant reductions in constituent levels at these already low values is uncertain. • The health protection benefits of these hypothetical reductions are not at all clear and may not be quantifiable. • Therefore, no further action is proposed.;; Utilities nenn Staff Recommevidatiom • Conduct a public hearing • Determine that the action is exempt from CEQA Receive and file the Report Utilities n --- For more iviformatiovi... • Refer to the Water Quality Report that is mailed to all water customers annually by July 1St. • Visit the City's website at www. newportbeachca.g • Contact Toan Van - Water Quality Coordinator 949-644- 3011 I Utilities Dei F,W PART O n u s - Q9C!
