MAY 2 6 1987 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA
.APPROVED ITEM NO. F-3CC
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department
SUBJECT:
Recommendation:
L' - z A!V
Authorize the
approving Schock's use of floats and access ramps bayward of the Z9th Str
end in exchange for Schock's provision of sailboats for use in the City's
instructional sailing program.
Background:
Since 1968, the City and Schock Boats have cooperated in public instructional
sailing classes which are an important and historical component of seasonal
activities offered through the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department. An
Agreement authorized by Resolution No. 68 -26 provided Schock with use of the
floats and access ramps bayward of the 29th Street end. In accordance with
plans and specifications approved by the Public Works Department, the Resolution
also authorized the original construction of the floats at Schock's expense.
Due to the changed conditions with respect to liability insurance, program needs
and operational practices, the City and Schock decided to update the Agreement.
Reflecting the increased value of the floats and ramps to Schock's operation,
the City will annually receive two 14' Lido class vessels in addition to the
five smaller Sabot class vessels received since 1968. In addition, the City will
be named as Additional Insured for property used by Schock under the Agreement.
The use of the floats and access ramps by Schock increases available dock area
and ties in the sales and repair operation which is bisected by the street end.
The City will also return annually to Schock instructional vessels which have been
rotated through the program over a three year period.
