The slope failure was in the form of a mud flow, and soil laden with water became liquefied and slid down the slope onto the road way below. Cause: The water source that caused the failure was rainfall falling on the slope, and water runoff from an upslope property that had an inadequate drainage system, as well as a leaky sewer line ( mid slope). All 3 factors contributed to the slope failure. Repair:All issues that created the original slope failure , as it relates to neighboring properties, have been subsequently fixed at the request and observation of the city of Newport beach building department.
