Subject: Condo development on Old Ford Road
I am writing in regard to the proposed development at the end of Ford Road in the area adjacent
to the AT & T building. I am totally opposed to the project. As a resident of Port Bristol Circle
for 35 years I have watched the development of the parks
that ring the Portstreet neighborhood. It has added much for the residents of Newport Beach as
many city activities and programs are held there. It brings many to soccer games and recreation
programs daily. I have walked my dogs for years
at all of these places and can attest to the already worrisome traffic. On a Saturday or Sunday
often the parking lot is filled and the cars line the street near the tennis courts/baseball/pickle ball
courts nearly down to Newport Hills Drive. This
hinders the visibility of anyone walking or driving in that area. Adding more traffic to that area
would endanger kids coming to and from programs.
I have seen the drawings and the proposed blueprints and cannot understand why anyone would
want to add that to the density already surrounding that. It seems ridiculous that any planning
commission would even consider that a safe site for more living accommodations due to traffic and the
implosion now of people using the parks, soccer fields and courts. The congestion is already felt by the
neighborhood. Putting even one resident there would be unsafe!
We voted into our city leadership a team of individuals that pledged no growth, and yet we see
structures going up in every available space. Trying to drive anywhere in Newport has become difficult
due to traffic. I wonder if consideration of this projects is because you too have been deceived by the
pictures that make the At&T parking lot look like it is part of the facility when in fact, the parking will be
inadequate for the facility, underground with a 90 degree angle and blind spots to enter and exit
(requiring large vehicles to back up!!), and be in the direct path of walkers and bikers. We already have a
huge apartment complex across the street and have witnessed their inability to get in and out of their
facility on Bonita Canyon road. It is amazing there have not been more accidents as the near misses
happen often!
Please add my voice to the voices of my neighbors and take this project off the drawing board.
