I believe an EIR is needed on this project. It does not seem that our neighborhood was given adequate notice of this project or sufficient time to evaluate it. I am aware that the window for public comments closes next week. There will certainly be impacts to the aesthetics, environment, geology, soils, among other things that need to be evaluated. How the development impacts the use and enjoyment of the park due is also a major concern. In addition, there will most certainly be safety issues with the narrow sloping driveway which will require vehicles to back out into the street. I believe an EIR is required to assess these issues. How can we accomplish this? I watched the video from the 4/18 meeting and I was pretty surprised that the developer would speak for our neighborhood, saying that we support this project. To my knowledge, this has not been discussed within the neighborhood and in fact there is a groundswell of opposition to it building. In addition, for him to state that grandparents and divorced dads have nowhere to go is absurd. Across the street on the corner of Bonita Canyon and MacArthur there is a 1000+ unit apartment complex known as Newport Bluffs. This project seems to have been misrepresented. Given that the project involves a request to change the designated land use (i.e., a legislative action), the Airport Land Use Commission must review it. I will keep your email as part of the public record and will attach it to the Planning Commission staff report as correspondence received when this project goes for public hearing. Moving forward, there will be a public hearing with the Planning Commission wherein action will be taken on the project. From there, this project will still require two more public hearings: one with the John Wayne Airport Land Use Commission and ultimately one with the City Council where a final action will be rendered. On that note, I will add your email address to the interest list, so I can keep you informed as to when any upcoming hearings are going to occur. Thanks again and please contact me if you have questions. All my best, Ben Z. BENJAMIN M. I have concerns about the public safety impacts of this project, about how the neighboring park will be impacted and about the fact that this type of development does not fit within the characteristics of the Port Streets neighborhood. Please keep me informed about any upcoming meetings/votes taking place on this project. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Catherine Bartz 2233 Port Carlisle Pl.
