Dear Mr. Zdeba,
I am writing to you regarding the 4302 condo?apt. project. Having been a resident in the port streets for over
27 years, we have experienced gradual increase in traffic, and decrease in safety in our neighborhood. Port
streets is a desirable neighborhood for families with children. Over the years the area has developed
tremendously. The Bonita Canyon residential neighborhood, Bluff Apartments, soccer field and baseball fields
have occupied a large portion of the open area around us. This has brought a lot of congestion in our area. In
the mornings, it is difficult to get out of the neighborhood to get on Bonita Canyon to access MacArthur
Blvd. Traffic is already unsafely backed up on Ford Road towards Bonita Canyon as well as Bonita Canyon to
MacArthur. Additionally, we are surrounded by condos and apartments by Pavilion shopping center, in the
corner of MacArthur and San Miguel and Gelson’s shopping center (Harbor Villas and Baywood apts.) and in
the corner of Bonita Canyon and MacArthur (the Bluffs). Riding bicycles in our area have increased and
children are frequently on the sidewalks around the neighborhood. This area ia no longer safe, and adding
more condos/apts. will only make the situation more dangerous for children on their bikes, children trying to
get to the parks for games, and adults on bikes and cars trying to get in and out of our neighborhood. The idea
of squeezing a set of condos in a small area with underground parking with one access to the parking lot
through Ford road is not a good plan. This will create more congestion on ford road create and make it very
unsafe to our children on bikes and many teens who are driving cars in our neighborhood.
We really don’t need more condos and apts in this high density location. We strongly oppose this
plan. Whoever did your traffic and environmental impact studies did not look at the issues carefully. We urge
that you do that again, specially during heavy traffic times in the area.
