THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FOR THE
COUNTY OF ORANGE INCLUDE JOHN WAYNE
AIRPORT IN THE SAME SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT AS
THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
WHEREAS, every ten years, the County of Orange ("County") uses new census
data to redraw supervisorial districts so that each board member represents about the
same number of constituents;
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors ("Supervisors") is
responsible for drawing supervisorial districts for the County;
WHEREAS, redistricting determines which neighborhoods and communities are
grouped together into each district;
WHEREAS, the impacts related to John Wayne Airport ("JWA") are now, and will
continue to be, a significant threat to the quality of life of the residents of the City of
Newport Beach ("City");
WHEREAS, many residential communities within the City are located under or
near the departure path of commercial and general aviation aircraft operating out of JWA;
WHEREAS, for over 30 years, the City, and community groups concerned about
adverse airport impacts, have developed, and implemented strategies to control those
impacts;
WHEREAS, JWA has traditionally been included in the supervisorial district that
includes the City, which has helped the City and County work together to address the
impacts of JWA on the City; and
WHEREAS, including JWA within the same supervisorial district is in the best
interests of the City and its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach resolves as
