Re: Trial closure of the North end of Tustin Avenue at Cliff Drive in Newport Beach Our sincerest Thanks and gratitude to the City Council of Newport Beach for authorizing the trial closure of Tustin Avenue at Cliff Drive. The trial has been INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFUL! It has truly improved the quality of our lives! Attached are signatures of every single Tustin Avenue resident recommending permanent closure. Yes, 100%! For our residents, the closure at Cliff is a small inconvenience compared to the traffic hazards and safety issues we experienced before. Today, I'd venture to say 99% of drivers on our streets are residents, visitors and vendors only. No more racing cars up and down our street! No more GPS showing our street as a shortcut to Cliff or PCH. We can park our cars and walk our children and dogs on the streets without fear of being run down! These narrow streets were not built for speeding traffic, and they certainly were not built for the traffic of future planned developments for Mariners Mile. Again, our sincerest THANKS to the City Council. Your actions have definitely improved the quality of our lives, and we are forever grateful. We respectfully request your consideration for the permanent closure of Tustin Avenue at Cliff Drive. Respectfully, Susan E. This closure has proven to be extremely successful, and our streets continue to be more calm and safe. There is no more "shortcut" thru traffic racing up and down our streets. We respectfully request the City Council approve the PERMANENT closure of Tustin Avenue at Cliff Drive (see signatures below). Our hope is the City will redevelop that area into a greenbelt with access to pedestrians and bikes for movement to and from schools and the local area. We would also appreciate your consideration of renaming this part of Tustin Avenue to Ocean View Loop, Blue Pacific Avenue, Newport Heights Circle or anything you deem appropriate. Dear Council, My husband Tony and I live at 204 Tustin Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92663. We reside at the corner of Tustin and Avon. With the new developments coming to Mariner's Mile, we both want to thank you for the consideration of a cul de sac. The majority of our neighbors (100% on Tustin Ave) would like to see the closure at Cliff drive and create a green belt from the top of Ocean View to Cliff, which is approx. 50'. This makes the most sense from a safety and aesthetic perspective. For those that have suggested a closure at the bottom due to traffic concerns does not make sense to us. The traffic that they will encounter on Riverside from Avon, is the same oncoming traffic that they will encounter exiting off of Cliff except Cliff is a blind intersection. The safety concern alone should be looked at more closely. The impact that these developments are going to have on our area is monumental I!! We are 100% in favor of the closure at Cliff. Thank you for your time. Warmly, Tony and Kathy Shaw Received After Agenda Printed April 12, 2022 Mulvey, Jennifer Item No. SS4 Subject: FW: Riverside Avenue Increased Traffic Since "test" Closure of Tustin Street through to Cliff Drive - City Council Meeting 4/12/22 - 4 PM From: melissabarnesgroup@gmail.com <melissabarnesgroup@gmail.com> Sent: April 12, 2022 9:17 AM To: citycouncil@nb.gov Cc: Brine, Tony <tbrine@newportbeachca.gov> Subject: Riverside Avenue Increased Traffic Since "test" Closure of Tustin Street through to Cliff Drive - City Council Meeting 4/12/22 - 4 PM [EXTERNAL EMAIL] DO NOT CLICK links or attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Honorable Mayor Muldoon and Members of Newport Beach City Council, I have lived in my home at 507 Riverside Avenue for 27 years. My children, who are now in college attended Newport Heights Elementary, Ensign and Newport Harbor High School. They spent a lot of years walking themselves to and from school. I take my early morning exercise walks in the neighborhood between 7 and 7:30 AM several days a week, my home office is in the front room facing the Street, I have watched traffic increase on our street since the test barriers were installed at Tustin and Cliff access. In addition to the increased traffic, a fair share of the cars come through at high speeds because it is a longer stretch of flat road that that first block of Tustin. Because there are no sidewalks in our neighborhood for the most part, these added cars that pass through and the speed in which they come through is dangerous. In addition to the increased danger this poses, this impacts the desirability of our street. If the street closure of Tustin and Ocean View is approved, this would significantly impact the value of our homes. We all purchased and chose to remodel, tear down or develop on the streets and in the location we did. Change is not necessary. Closing a street to benefit the residents of two streets while significantly impacting the quality of life and property values of residents of several other streets is not acceptable.
