Dianne, thanks for the heads up, unfortunately it's the middle of our biggest and busiest month in Balboa. Due
to the problem of acquiring employees, at 64 years old I'm working 7 days a week,10 hours a day right now. If
you can forward them my letters , It's probably all I can do, other than reiterate, as predicted the day of
filming all the businesses from Washington to Main St. were down 40%-50% from the previous year and from
the previous Friday (it was allowed on a holiday weekend).

Tony
Tomorrow the City Council will have a study session item on the agenda on the subject of film permit regulations and
management. Study session begins at 4 PM. I encourage you to attend because you had personal experience for the
recent filming in the fun zone.
Your input will be valuable.

This issue can be fixed by shutting down this filming or forcing them to compensate all the
business's they are affecting.

Tony —
I am so sorry this filming will cause problems for your business. We need to fix
our ordinance but unfortunately not before this scheduled event. I will discuss
with city staff.

We have a problem with trying to meet all together before this is supposed to
happen. We are all severely under staffed and are working almost all our hours
ourselves. We can call individually, drop off signed papers asking for your help
and send emails, unless you can send someone down to discuss with us at our
locations. We've gone through our books and I will likely lose $2500.00 in sales,
the rest estimate between $600 for the smallest biz to $1500. My store is the
largest in Balboa, so I have the most potential loss. Haven't we had a hard
enough time with covid? This is adding insult to injury. Please give us a break.
Sincerely Tony George

Tony please continue to send communications to the entire council and city manager by using
citycouncil@newportbeachca.gov. We will need two other council members to vote with us to get any
changes made to our ordinance. City staff is looking for all ways to lessen the impact while we work
through the necessary channels.
