The work included additive bid items for repairing three additional bents at each of the piers. The contracted work has now been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department. A summary of the construction cost is as follows: Original Bid Amount: $ 578,770.00 Actual Cost of Bid Items Constructed: $ 578,770.00 Total Change Orders: $ 144,032.78 Final Total Contract Amount: $ 722,802.78 The final total contract amount was $722,802.78, which was approximately 24.9 percent higher than the original bid amount. This cost increase was primarily due to identifying additional areas on the pier structures that required repair. These items included additional bolt and connection plate replacements, replacement of an additional pile that was found to have been broken off since the initial inspection, and additional deck concrete to fill in the void left by the removal of the prior restaurant at the end of Newport Pier. The award established a contingency amount of $57,877 to cover the cost of unforeseen work and the City Manager authorized an additional encumbrance of $86,815.00 pursuant to Council Policy F-14. The additional funds raised the available contingency amount to 125 percent of the original award.
