Gondola Adventures, Inc. has provided romantic gondola cruises in Newport Harbor since 1993.
Due to a complete remodel of space at 3101 W Coast Hwy in 2018, we needed to find an
alternate business location with office space and docking for fifteen gondolas. After an
exhaustive search of Newport Harbor without any success in finding adequate space, we were
offered the opportunity to relocate to 300 E Coast Hwy. We established a new address for the
location, 200 Bayside Dr. and brought in a mobile office trailer from which to operate.
Because the existing fire and building requirements preclude our continuing to operate from the
mobile office trailer, we are proposing removing the existing office and replacing it with a 40’ x
8’ ground-level, air-conditioned storage container. This storage container will not house
personnel but only contain supplies. For daily operations, we will purchase a pop-up canopy no
larger than 12’ x 12’ (max 144 sq feet). Staff will set up the canopy on a daily basis and check in
guests using a mobile tablet or laptop computer. Gondoliers and vendors will only enter the
storage container to retrieve supplies. Because the 40’ x 8’ storage shed is quite a bit smaller
than our existing 60’ x 12’ trailer, we are also considering adding a pre-fab “Tuff Shed” type
storage shed next to the storage container for overflow dry storage that doesn’t require climate
control; this second, small shed is pending necessity and also approval from the landlord. The
expectation is that it won’t be larger than 10’ x 10’.
We continue to expect the gondola cruises to have zero negative impact on the surrounding area.
Most cruises are couples celebrating special occasions. We serve an upscale demographic; our
customers are always accompanied by a gondolier and our gondoliers are keenly aware of
making sure we are always good neighbors to the local residents and businesses. To our
knowledge, we have never received a noise complaint or had any other concerns regarding the
operation of our business; on the contrary, many of the residents and businesses consider the
gondolas a unique and pleasant addition to their local area.
