PLAN REVIEW SUBMITTAL CRITERIA
This document has been developed to assist applicants in determining if the plans you are submitting
to the building department will also require the approval of the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA).
The criteria specified has been derived from the requirements found in the California Fire Code
(Title 24, Part 9) as well as local ordinances which require the OCFA to review specified buildings,
fire protection systems and hazardous processes prior to use.
If you answer "Yes" to any of the questions listed below, you must submit the plans through the
building department or directly to the OCFA for review, as directed by the building department.

1 Does this plan involve the construction of a building or tenant improvement to an existing
building with one of the following Uniform Building Code occupancy classifications: A,
E, F, H, I, R1. For single family residences (R3 occupancies) will the floor area exceed
3,600 square feet or will the structure be located in excess of 50 feet from the street?
2 Does this plan involve the construction of a high-rise building (more than or equal to
55 feet from fire access to highest occupied Floor)?
3 Have you answered "yes" to any of the questions contained in the Orange County Fire Authority,
Permit Screening Form (PSF)? Note: The PSF is available through all building depts. and
OCFA
4 Does this plan involve the installation of a new fire sprinkler system or the alteration
of an existing fire sprinkler system?
5 Does this plan involve the installation of a new fire alarm system or alteration of an
existing fire alarm system.
6 Does this plan involve the installation of a new fire extinguishing system (CO2, Halon,
Dry Agent, Wet Agent) or alteration of an existing fire extinguishing system?
7 Does this plan involve the installation of a spray paint booth for either conventional
or electrostatic spraying operations?
8 Does this plan involve the installation of an aboveground or underground tank for the
storage of liquid petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural
gas, or other hazardous materials?
9 Does this project include site and/or parking plans with identified fire lanes, access
roadways or fire hydrant locations which have not been previously reviewed by OCFA?
10 Does this plan involve the installation of underground piping systems serving fire protection
systems or fire hydrants?
11 Does this plan involve the installation of gates that restrict access to structures?
12 Is this project located in Special Fire Protection Areas (SFPA)?
