Dear Ms. Murphy,
Per your request, we are changing the addresses of 120 38th Street and 120 ½
38th Street to 120 A 38th Street and 120 B 38th Street. 120 A is assigned to the
unit above the first floor, and 120 B is assigned to the unit on the first floor.
We will advise City departments; however, it will be your responsibility to inform
all other affected agencies, such as the U. S. Postal Service, Orange County
Assessor, utilities, etc. Please be sure to notify your local telephone service
carrier so that responses to any “9-1-1” emergency calls are dispatched to a valid
address. The address numbers should be at least four inches high, of contrasting
color to their background, and clearly visible from the street.

Thanks for your time this afternoon when I met briefly with you to discuss how to proceed in
changing the address for the duplex my husband and I are building.
Current address: 120 & 120-1/2 38th Street, Newport Beach.
Proposed address: 120- A & 120- B 38th Street, Newport Beach.
We would like to designate the address of our principal home located on the upper two floors
(AKA the unit "Above"), 120- A 38th Street. The smaller unit will serve as a guest house for
family and is located on the first floor (AKA the unit "Below"), 120- B 38th Street.
The primary reason for submitting the proposed address change is the difficulty in correctly
differentiating 120 and 120-1/2 when submitting many electronic forms requiring addresses,
particularly with a 'number' street. Because we will be the primary residents and this is our full-
time home, we would prefer to refer to the 'Above' level more easily as unit A when giving
directions to visiting guests or those delivering items. The lower, less frequently occupied
unit located 'Below' would be designated unit B. Minimal mail and packages are expected to be
delivered to unit B, and we will be paying for the related utilities.
