CITY COUNCIL AGENDA
ITEM NO. F-2(b)
TO: Mayor and City Council
BY THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Parks, Beaches and Recreation Director CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
SUBJECT: ROBERTI-Z'BERG-HARRIS URBAN OPEN SPACE AND MAY 1419W
RECREATION PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution Number 90- authorizing the application of grant
funds available from the 1989/90 Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris Urban Open Space and
Recreation Program to be applied to the Oasis Senior Center Building Expansion.
ENVIRONMENTAL SIGNIFICANCE:
This project has been reviewed, and it has been determined that it is categorically
exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act under
Class 1 (Existing Facilities), based upon the fact that the addition to the
facility is less than 10,000 sq. ft. and the project is in an area which is not
environmentally sensitive and where all public services are available.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Newport Beach is entitled to an allocation of $25,307 from the Block
Grant segment of the RZH program. This program is proposed to be combined with
the State Bond Program of $203,000 and City funds appropriated this fiscal year
and funds included in the 1990-91 preliminary budget to generate the necessary
amount of $725,000 estimated to be the cost of the project.
The Oasis Senior Center Building Expansion is a project that will complete the
Master Plan for the facility and provide one of the finest senior facilities in
Orange County. The success of the programs at Oasis in cooperation with the
Friends of Oasis has resulted in a community service that has great value for
senior residents of Newport Beach.
