fundamental importance to sustaina6le and resilient communities and to the public welfare, safety and welt -being
of the people of the City of Newport Beach; and
`WM�UAS, these infrastructure, faciCities andservices could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of
Public Works professionals, comprised of engineers, managers, andemployees at alllevels of government and the
private sector, who are responsible for building, improving, maintaining, and protecting our nation's
transportation, water supply and treatment, solid waste systems, pu6lic 6uildings, parks, and other structures
and facilities essential for our citizens; and
�WJitE E�1.S, it is the public interest for the citizens, civic leaders in the City of Newport Beach to expand their
knowledge of and to maintain a continuing interest and understanding of the importance of Public Works
programs in their respective communities; and
TMUAS, the year 2023 marks the 63rd annual National Pu6lic Works Week sponsored by the American
Public Works Association be it now.

in the City of Newport Beach, and I encourage all citizens to join with representatives of the American Public
Works Association andgovernment agencies in activities, events, and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to our
Public Works professionals and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national
health, safety, and quality of life.
