FINANCE 1. YTD Total Revenue is still tracking ahead of last year, 12.59% up over last year to
date.
2. There have not been significant gifts to the Hall in the past 30 days.
3. The Board approved a grant of $39,980 requested by the Library Services
Director, Melissa Hartson.
Fiscal 2024 Budget
1. The draft budget for next fiscal year was reviewed by the Finance Committee and
approved by the Board. It shows a small net revenue.
GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
1. A UCI intern has been hired and onboarded for marketing, programs, and donor
research during Kunga’s leave.
2. The following Foundation Board members completed their term of office:
Dorothy Larson, Toby Larson, Adrian Windsor, Lizanne Witte, Felix Yan, John
Prichard.
3. This fiscal year, the Foundation added the following Board members: Linda
Beimfohr, Joy Brenner, Antonella Castro, Randy Heyler, Emilie Menghin, Ann
Stephens.
4. The Board Officers as of July 1 are Kevin Barlow, Chair, Marilyn Krahe,
Secretary and Vice Chair, Emilie Menghin, Treasurer, Karen Clark, Immediate
Past Chair.
5. Because of the pandemic shutdown, terms of office were extended. The
Foundation policy on terms of office for members and officers is now active.

EVENTS and PROGRAMMING
1. All the programs for next year have been scheduled and dates secured with the
Library. All Library Live and Witte speakers are contracted. All fall Medicine in Our
Backyard topics and speakers have been set. All Book Discussion Group books
are selected. Patricia Dreyfus will lead the book discussions until Kunga’s return.
2. Spotlight on Science has three presentations scheduled and budgeted. A
programming committee is being formed to identify subjects and speakers. These
will be set by the end of July to begin marketing for the first presentation on
November 15. Spotlight on Science will be a free program.
3. The Foundation will manage 46 events next fiscal year.
4. Witte and Library Live committees are on hiatus until next September.
5. Library Live speakers are: Lisa See, Steve Lopez, Michael Scott Moore, Tess
Gunty. The season Begins October 9 and ends April 18.
6. Witte speakers are: Fiona Hill, Ed Yong, Richard Reeves, Dahlia Lithwick. The
season begins January 26.
MARKETING 1. Bookmark is expanded to 20 pages and is at the printer. Mailing is scheduled.
2. One of the projects of the summer intern is to develop a social media plan. The
individual selected has significant experience in this area.
3. Season passes for Witte Lectures and Library Live go on sale to members only on
July 1.
DEVELOPMENT
1. The Foundation added over 100 new donors this fiscal year. The Summer
Solstice Celebration for new members does provide an incentive.
2. The Summer Solstice event on June 14 was a benefit for new members. Library
Leadership Circle members ($1,000 and up) were also invited, as well as Library
Trustees, City Council members, special guests of honorees Mike and Polly
Smith, and Medicine in Our Backyard presenters. The event was attended by 140
people, including four Councilmembers.
a. The Smiths were honored as founding and continuing sponsors of
Medicine in Our Backyard.
b. Susan Straight was a dynamic and entertaining speaker.
3. The Library Leadership Reception for next fall (the former Donor Wall reception)
is scheduled for October 4.
4. One of the intern’s responsibilities this summer will be to identify donors to the

Central Library in 1990-1994 and to the endowment who are still active in the
Foundation’s database to begin the outreach for the Legacy Giving Campaign in
honor of the 30th anniversary of the Central Library.
5. It is anticipated that the Library Hall will be rebid in September.
a. The Beyond Books capital campaign will be entering its public phase
in the near future. A feature article about the Hall was in the recent
Newport Beach Magazine.
