The Finance Committee met to review the audit preparation and YTD finances. 1. Season Pass marketing: Season Passes for both Witte Lecture Series (second year) and Library Live (first year) have exceeded goals. Currently there are 57 passes sold for Library Live, over 32% of the house. There have been 80 Witte Lecture Series season passes sold, or 22% of the house. a. Although the capacity of the Friends Room is 200, because of major donor complimentary tickets and speaker guests, the Foundation identifies the number of potential tickets to be sold as 180 per event. 2. For the 2023-2024 season of Library Live, the Foundation will provide complimentary tickets to students with a current Student I.D. and to the Learners of the Library’s Literacy Program, as space permits. 3. The September Board Meeting of the Library Foundation is Monday, September 11, 2023, at 5:00 PM. a. The Library Live Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 5, at 9:30 AM in the Staff Conference Room. Note: depending on confirmed attendance because of committee members travel plans, this meeting may be changed to a Zoom meeting. b. The Witte Lecture Series Committee will meet on Thursday, September 14, at 9:30 AM in the Staff Conference Room. After the September meeting, Witte Committee meetings will move to the First Thursday of the month. 4. The Library Leadership Reception will be held on Wednesday, October 4, from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Bamboo Courtyard. Hold the Date Cards will be mailed August 21 and formal invites before the end of August. a. All Trustees are on the invitation list. 2 5. National Estate Planning Awareness Week begins October 16. That week will be the launch to the Foundation’s estate giving program for the Elizabeth and John Stahr Legacy Society in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Central Library. a. The Foundation will be contracting with FreeWill to provide free Planned Giving documents to our members on the website. The free will document that is provided is California approved. FreeWill is utilized by hundreds of nonprofits, large and small, including dozens of library foundations. b. The Foundation has already developed a webpage for Estate Giving with documents available for those individuals that already have an advisor and an estate plan. https://nbplf.foundation/estate-giving/ 6. The Spotlight on Science programs will start on November 15 with a presentation by UCI professor Padhraic Smith, Ph.D., on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on scientific research. a. Also under consideration is Eric Rignot, UCI Professor of Earth System Science, world-renowned glaciologist who studies the effects of global climate change on polar ice sheets. The third presenter will be chosen before the end of August. 7. The first Book Discussion Group is on Wednesday, September 11 and the book is Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See, the first Library Live speaker.
