IM", the City of Newport Beach of California is committed to taking steps to combat hunger in every part of our community and to provide additionalresources that those in the City of Newport Beach need and 14NM4", the City of Newport Beach of California is committed to working witFiA6oundToodCare, Orange County Food Bank andSecond9farvest Food Bank collectively known as the Orange County IfungerAffiance, in educating people about the role and importance offood banks andfood care in addressing hunger andraising awareness of the need to devote more resources and attention to hunger issues; and 'bVXE4", in the first half of 2023, Orange County FoodBankandSecond9farvest FoodBan kcoIre ctively recorded an average of 888,057 food distribution visits per month from our neigh6ors facing food insecurity; and ` NIM4 S, in the first half of 2023, Orange County Food Bank and Second Y arvest Food Bank have collectively distributed 33,661,205 million pounds offoodthrougFi its partner networkoffoodpantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, schools, colleges, universities, and other community organizations; and 4M RM, in the first half of 2023, Abound Food Care has recovered 3 0 7,43 0 pounds of food, reducing foodwaste and diverting that food to those who need it; and `6MT", the month of September has been designated "WungerAction .Month " in order to bring attention to food insecurity in our communities and to enlist the public in the movement to end hunger by taking action — including volunteer shifts, socialmedia shares, and donations — to ensure every community, and every6ody in it, has the food they need to thrive; and `NUJ IM", food banks and other organizations across the country, including the members of the Orange County hungerACCuince (A6ound Food Care, Orange County Food Bank and Secondifarvest Food Bank) will host numerous events throughout the month ofSeptem6er to bring awareness and help endfood insecurity in our local community. ,M' W, rMINOE OW, I, Noah Bloom, Mayor of the City of Newport Beach, on behalf of the entire Newport Beach City Council, do here6y proclaim September 2023 as WV GEMM0Y9WOAffDf in the City of Newport Beach of California, andl call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
