November 26, 2023 Greetings City Council Members, It gives me great pleasure to write to you in support of my very good friend Fiona Ivey in her quest to serve on the Newport Beach Public Library Board of Directors. I have known and worked with Fiona for over twenty years since we founded and ran the MOMS Club of Newport Coast while we raised our young children. Since then, I have worked with her extensively in the leadership at Newport Coast Elementary School where she was the president of the NCE School Foundation while was the PTA President. We shared a goal of working to bring the two groups together in a cooperative fashion to maximize the success of both groups on campus. When our kids attended Corona del Mar High School, we served as co -PTA Presidents for several years. As a result of these long-standing working relationships, I have experienced Fiona Ivey in a variety of settings over many years and feel well -qualified to comment on her leadership style and qualifications for this important position in our community. Fiona is a warm and dedicated friend to many, always the first to jump in to offer assistance or suggestions to friends in need. She is reliable and efficient and always willing to put in the time and energy needed to accomplish the goal at hand. Most importantly, she has the willingness to do the extensive research needed to inform the group and enable us to consistently make wise and informed decisions. She is efficient yet dedicated to not rushing into anything without carefully considering all available options. As a former teacher and an author, Fiona is committed to literacy. She is an active user of our library system and frequently invites groups to events taking place in the various branches. Fiona always has a book recommendation for a friend- of any age or interest. She maintains a list of local Free Libraries and helps to keep the neighborhoods stocked with free books from her own collection. Over the past few years, Fiona has acted as the Newport Beach Book Fairy and hidden free books in a variety of locations to be found and enjoyed by strangers. Fiona has demonstrated a long term commitment to making our beautiful community a better place and I think she has a unique ability to hear and relate to a variety of stakeholders. She possesses all the qualities necessary to contribute and thrive as a Director, and will immediately be an outstanding member of the Board. I have no doubt that you, as many have found before, will be extremely proud to have chosen her to represent the community in this important role. Fiona Ivey has the time, energy, background and commitment to help the Newport Beach Public Library become even more successful would be happy to chat with any of you if I could provide any other helpful information, Brigid Cianfrani 949-500-9155 Received after Agenda Printed November 28, 2023 Item No. 20 From: Rieff, Kim To: Mulvey. Please accept this email as an endorsement of Fiona Ivey for the Library Board of Trustees. I've known Fiona since 2006, when I was first elected to the school board and she was a very involved parent at Newport Coast Elementary through CdM High School. She is both a serious and fun -loving bookworm who understands the educational value of a wonderful library and the importance of age appropriateness of the books within the library Fiona is one who brings joy to any conversation as she speaks about her latest read. She is well known in the Newport Beach community as the "Newport Beach Book Fairy", as she spreads the books she has read throughout the community for others to find and enjoy. I cannot think of a better candidate for our wonderful city's Library Commission and hope that you will give Fiona Ivey your thoughtful consideration. Thank you, Karen Yelsey Received after Agenda Printed November 28, 2023 Item No. 20 From: Rieff, Kim To: Mulvey. Dear City Council Members, I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving! Please accept this email as my endorsement of Fiona Ivey for the Library Board of Trustees. I've known Fiona since 2016 when I began working alongside her on the CDMHS PTA Board. She has consistently demonstrated a leadership style of humility and service, with a determination to getting things done and welcoming newcomers to the school. While known as the "NB Book Fairy", hiding books she's read (s000000 many) around town for lucky recipients to find, I also recall her CdM 101 program. She created it as a primer for parents new to the school to navigate their way around the resources and contacts at the school. Fiona led the PTA with a vision for continuous improvement that still resonates in the school community. It is my hope that her love of books, her background working in the classroom and with children would make her an excellent addition to the group of outstanding Trustees. During our discussions of this role, I've found her to take it very seriously, including the importance of age appropriateness for book selections available to children. Thank you for considering my input as you make your selection, Ruth iPhone Photographer
