Webb, Public Works Director - 949-644-3311, dawebb@newportbeachca.gov PREPARED BY: Tom Sandefur, Assistant City Engineer - 949-644-3321, tandefur@newportbeachca.gov TITLE: Bonita Creek Community Center Improvements - Notice of Completion for Contract No. 9333-1 (23F02) ABSTRACT: On January 23, 2024, the City Council awarded Contract No. 9333-1 for the Bonita Creek Community Center Improvements to R Dependable Construction, Inc. of San Bernardino. The total contract award was $489,860 plus a $75,000 contingency allowance. The required work is complete, and staff requests the City Council accept the work and close out the contract. RECOMMENDATIONS: a) Accept the completed work and authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the project; b) Authorize the City Clerk to release the Labor and Materials Bond 65 days after the Notice of Completion has been recorded in accordance with applicable portions of Civil Code; and c) Release Faithful Performance Bond one year after acceptance by the City Council. Contract No. 9333-1 has now been completed to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department. There were seven change orders totaling $43,559.96. This amounted to 8.9% of the original contract amount and was within the contingency allowance. The added work/cost is primarily due to various unknown conditions encountered throughout the project during demolition including difficulty accessing existing plumbing and finding additional damaged roof members in need of replacement. Additional areas of concrete were also added to project to provide better drainage away from the building. Automated door hardware and additional paint were also added to provide a better final product and ease of use. A summary of the project schedule milestones is as follows: Estimated Start of Construction per Annual Baseline Schedule April 1, 2024 Actual Start of Construction Per Notice to Proceed March 18, 2024 Contract Completion Date with Approved Extensions July 25, 2024 Actual Substantial Construction Completion Date July 25, 2024 Due to contract change orders for unforeseen items as well as requests by City staff, the contractor was granted 16 additional days to complete the project.
