HomeMy WebLinkAboutWater Quality Grant ProgramsWater Quality / Coastal Tidelands Committee February 1st , 2018 Presented by: John Kappeler Public Works Water Quality Grant Programs Fast Facts ■ OCTA Measure M – half cent sales tax for transportation approved by voters in 2006 ■ $300M to improve overall water quality in OC from transportation generated pollution ■ Grant Program – countywide competitive basis Tier 1 Equipment purchases and upgrades to existing catch basins and related BMPs such as screens, filters, inserts and other street scale low-flow diversion projects Tier 2 Constructed wetlands, detention/infiltration basins and bioswales, which mitigate pollutants including litter and debris, but also heavy metals, organic chemicals, sediment and nutrients. Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Environmental Allocation Cleanup Program Tier 1 $20M available over a seven year period $2.8M available this year $500k per grant application(5 applications annually) $500k per agency 20-25% matching funds Tier 1 Projects - Proposed Stormdrain Trash/Debris Screens NAC Log Boom Upgrade Prop 1 $30M available over a three year period $11.2M available this “Call” Potential second “Call” later this year $9M available summer 2019 No limit on applications or amounts No match requirement OPC Projects - Proposed Newport Bay Water Wheel Project Polaris Drive Trash Mitigation Project Schedule & Grant Amounts (Preliminary) OCTA Schedule: Grant applications due late April Amount: $300k-$500k Grant Selection/Award: late summer 2018 OPC Schedule: Grant applications due February 23rd Amount: $2M-$2.7M Grant Selection/Award: late summer 2018 Questions?
