NBC volunteers for ecology mapping Constellation Park Water Quality & Restoration Project 1.Habitat Restoration and Protection to adapt to or mitigate climate change. •Removing Invasive Plants •Flood Plain Creation •Replanting Native Trees and Plants 2.Restore and Protect Marine Protected Areas •Address Marine Pollution •Restore Coastal Ecosystem 3.Community Access and Involvement •Improve Trails •Improve viewing experience of Bay •Incorporate into the design habitat and hydrology features to promote scientific and cultural teaching opportunities Prop 68 Grant Opportunity •Grant Application Submittal: Late Summer 2019 •Grant Request: ~$1.5 Million •Proponents: NBC, OC Park, OC Flood Control, City of Newport Beach, OC Coastkeeper, OC Watershed, CDFW, Regional Water Quality Control Board Ocean Protection Council – Proposition 68 Grant Program Prop 68, Chapter 9: “Ocean, Bay, and Coastal Protection,” - $35 million for projects that conserve, protect, and restore marine wildlife and healthy ocean and coastal ecosystems with a focus on the state’s system of marine protected areas and sustainable fisheries. Prop 68, Chapter 10 “Climate Preparedness, Habitat Resiliency, Resource Enhancement, and Innovation,” - $21.2 million for projects that assist coastal communities with adaptation to climate change. Climate adaptation projects may address sea level rise, or habitat and restoration and protection.
