The new normal includes more takeout, outdoor dining, elimination of self-service stations, less reusables and more disposables to look safe. When the ordinance arrives at City Council, I’ll suggest a minor COVID update to Section 6.05.022 Single-Use Reduction, to help the businesses and environment a little more. Current Version: A.Food vendors shall only provide straws, utensils, lid plugs and to-go condiment packages to customers upon request. B.Food vendors are encouraged to charge a fee of twenty-five cents ($0.25) for straws, utensils, cups, and/or lids. Funds collected shall be retrained by the food vendor. My Suggestion: A.For dine-in, food vendors shall only provide straws, lid plugs and cup sleeves to customers upon request. B.For takeout, food vendors shall charge twenty-five cents ($0.25) for every cutlery packet. In addition to the items in section 6.05.022.A, unpackaged utensils, chopsticks, condiment packets and napkins shall also only be provided upon request. C.Food vendors are encouraged to charge a fee of twenty-five cents ($0.25) for straws, utensils, cups, and/or lids. D.Funds collected shall be retrained by the food vendor. Trash and Toxics Reduction Ordinance approved by the Committee on Jan. 9, 2020
