BY GENERAL NOTES 1. The construction of all public improvements shall conform to the requirements of the Construction Standards and Specifications for the Construction of Public Works, City of Newport Beach, 1979 Edition, with supplements. 2. Stationing refers to the centerlines of street except where otherwise noted. 3. Curb data refers to the face of the curb. 4. All concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, drainage structures and retaining walls shall be constructed of Class 560-C-3250 PCC. 5·. All exposed concrete surfaces shall conform in grade, color and finish to all adjoining curbs and sidewalks. 6. All underground work shall be completed prior to paving of streets. - 7. Existing underground utilities are as per available records. The Contractor shall be responsible for verifying the actual location and elevation in the field. 8. The walls and faces of all excavations greater than five (5) feet in depth shall be effectively guarded by a shoring system, sloping_of the ground or other equivalent means. Trenches less than five (5) feet in depth shal I al so be guarded when examination indicates hazardous ground movement may be expected. 9. The Contractor(s) shall obtain a permit to perform excavation or trench work as described in Note 8 above from CAL/OS HA. 10. All improvement work shown for construction on these plans shall be constructed in accordance with the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (1979 Edition with 1980 Supplement) and the City of Newport Beach Standard Special Provisions and Standard Drawings. 2. All standard plans refer to the City of Newport Beach Standards unless otherwise noted. 3. All the elevations shown on these plans are in feet above mean sea level (MSLl. 4. All PCC and AC removals shall be outlined to necessary working limits and saw cut to a minimum depth of 2 inches prior to removal.· All debris created by the removal operations shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of away from the job site in a manner and at a location acceptable to all cognizant agencies. 5. Portland cement concrete shall be Class 560-C-3250. The materials and methods for con- struction of the PCC improvements shall be in accordance ·with the applicab.le sections of the Sta~dard Specifications. 6. Storm drain pipe shall be cast or spun reinforced concrete pipe of the size and strength shown on these plans. As an alternate to the reinforced concrete pipe, asbestos cement pipe of the same size ana with a strength of 1.5 times the D-Load indicated for RCP may be used. The pipe and fittings shall be in accordance with Sections 207-2 and 207-6, respectively, of the Standard Specifications. 7. Pipe bedding and trench backfill materials shall be densified to a relative compaction of 90 ! percent or more. 8. Aggregate base shall be either crushed aggregate base or crushed miscellaneous base in con- formance with Sections 2 00-2. 2 and 200-2. 4, respectively, of the Standard Specifications. 9. Aggregate base shall be compacted to 9 5% of maximum density. 10. A prime coat consisting of Grade SC-250 liquid asphalt applied at a rate between 0.10 and 0.25 gallon per square yard shall be applied to the aggregate base. 11. A tack coat of either Grade SS-lh emulsified asphalt or AR 1000 paving asphalt shall be applied to the contact surfaces of all cold pave,nent joints, curbs, gutters, manholes, and the like immediately before the adjoining asphalt concrete is placed. 12. Asphaltic concrete shall be in accordance with Section 400-4 of the Standard Specifications.
