PLANTING GENERAL NOTES
1. ALL WORK SHAUL CONFORM TO APPLICABLE LOCAL CODES.
2. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE HIMSELF FULLY AWARE OF SITE CONDITIONS PRIOR TO ISSUING
HIS BID. LACK OF KNOWLEDGE Of EXISTING SITE CONDITIONS SHALL NOT BE A BASIS
FOR ADDITIONAL COSTS DURING CONSTRUCTION.
3. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY SHOUUD ANY DISCREPANCIES BE
FOUND ON THESE PLANS. ANY WORK PERFORMED BY THE CONTRACTOR PRIOR TO
RECEIVING A CLARIFICATION FROM THE ENGINEER MAY REQUIRE REMOVAL AND
RE-CONSTRUCTION OR WORK PERFORMED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT TIHE CONTRACTOR'S
EXPENSE.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY SHOUUD FIELD CONDITIONS VARY
FROM THE PLANS.
5. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY LOCATIONS OF ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES PRIOR TO ANY
EXCAVATION. ANY DAMAGE TO EXISTING SITE ELIEMENTS OR UTILITIES SHALL BE
IMMEDIATELY AND PROPERLY REPAIRED TO ITS FORMER STATE AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO
THE CITY.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT WILLFULLY PROCEED WITH CONSTRUCTION AS DESIGNED
WHEN IT IS OBVIOUS THAT UNKNOWN OBSTRUCTIONS AND/OR GRADE DIFFERENCES EXIST
THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN KNOWN DURING DESIGN. SUCH CONDITIONS SHAUL BE
IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION Of THE ENGINEER. CONTRACTOR SHAUL
ASSUME FUUL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL NECESSARY REVISIONS DUE TO FAILURE TO GIVE
SUCH NOTIFICATION PRIOR TO BEGINNING WORK.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN A QUALIFIED SUPERVISOR ON THE SITE AT ALL TIMES DURING
CONSTRUCTION THROUGH COMPLETION OF PICK-UP WORK.
8. CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE AUL EXCESS SOIL GENERATED BY HIS OPERATIONS FROM THE
SITE, PER AUL APPLICABLE CODES.
9. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVAL OF DEBRIS FROM SITE, PER ALL
APPLICABLE CODES, AS WAS CREATED FROM HIS CONSTRUCTION AND/OR DEMOLITION
OPERATIONS.
10. ALL PAVING INSTALLIED AS A PART OF THIS WORK SHALL DRAIN AT A MINIMUM OF 1 %.
ALL PLANTER AREAS INSTALLED AS A PART OF THIS WORK SHALL DRAIN AT A MINIMUM OF
2% IN A UNIFORM SMOOTH SURFACE WITH OUT LOW SPOTS OR EROSION SCARS. WATER
SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GATHER AND DRAIN IN A CONCENTRATED MANNER SO AS TO
CAUSE EROSION.

Palm T ree l nst.allation
For palms grown in containers or boxes, follow the tree and shrub installc1tion procedures. For Aeld
grown pi'.lfms, excavate planting pits at least 24 inches wider than the rootball. The planting pit
depth should not exceed tne me..,1surcd length From crown to bottom of rootball. The crown should
not be buried. Pl.anting palms too deep is a dangerous practice. If' the palms within a stand are
required ta be at the same height, select palms at that he,ght rather than adj usting in the planting
pit. Organic matter should not be placed in the backfill.
For la rge specimen trees, you may wish to consider inst.ailing observation tubes so that soil moisture
can more easily be monitored and water ran be pumped out of the root zone if the soil becomes mo
wet. Ideally, the palm should be provided with dedicatai irrigation for the establishment period.

Water management during establishment is critcal. The original rootbal1 and surrounding backfill
should be evenly moist for at least the first 4-6 months, but never saturated. Drenching the soil 2-3

Approximately 60 days after planting, uniformly broadcast a "palm special" fertilize-beneath the drip
line. Labeled rdtes and frequency should be followed.
Toe palms should be planted when soil temperatures are warm. Ideally, planting should be avoided
between November and February.
Maintenance Fertilization
For groundcover and mass planting areas, uniformly broadrast sulfur mated urea at the rate of 5 lbs.
per 1000 sq. ft. The ftrst appllGJtion should oa:ur approxirmtely 45 days after planting, with repeat
applications e,ery 60-90 days or as growth and color dictate. In early spring and fall, substitute a
