Honorable Mayot and Members of the City Council -
We greatly appreciate the policy direction of the City Council to preserve public safety and
neighborhood integrity, in particular during periods of Holidays and high concentration of
disturbance to visitors and residents.
Our comments address Council Agenda Item X. Current Business, Item 12, proposing to expand the
zones designated as, Safety Enhancement Zones, the applicable schedule, and provisions for Code
Enforement.
We commend the Council for adding Zones in Corona del Mar.
We request that the Council expand the Balboa Penninsula Zone designated subject to Safety
Enhancement control, to include West 8th to West 18th street, with similar Ocean and Newport Blvd
boundaries. This area , while largely stable family residential, has experienced some transition and
has been subjected to increased levels of similar disturbancesto that further up the Penninsula in the
traditional "war zone" ,coming from ( permitted and unpermitted) change in ownership and
occupancy.
We request that this expanded Area be incorporated into that designated as, Safety Zone, so that
our community members can be afforded and assured the same protections as those in the other
designated areas.
Thank you for your consideration and service.
