GENERAL NOTES
The construction of all public improvements shall confirm to the
requirements of the Newport Beach construction standards,
standard special provisions, design criteria, standard drawings and
the "Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction," 1991
edition and supplements.
Dust shall be controlled by watering and/or dust palliative.
Sanitary facilities shall be maintained on the site during the
construction period.
\\f?rk hours are limited from 7:00 AM to 6:30 Pl\,f Monday through
Fnday; 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Saturdays per section 10-28 of the NBMC.
Koise, excavation, delivery and removal shall be controlled per
section 10-28 or the NBMC.
The stamped set of approved plans shall be on the job site at all
times.
The contractor is responsible for locating and protecting utilities.
Approved drainage provisions and protective measures must be used
to protect existing drainage during the sewer installation operation.
Existing underground utilities are shown as per available records.
The contractor shall be responsible for verifying the actual location
and elevation in the field prior to beginning construction of the new
facilities.
All exposed concrete surfaces shall conform in grade, color and finish
to all adjoining curhs and walks.
Stations shown (0+00) are sewer stations and arc independent of all
other stations.
The contractor shall request inspection from the Public Works
Department 48 hours in advance of performing any work al 644-3311.
The Public 1\forks Department inspector shall also be notified after
place1nent of forms and prior to placement of any concrete for curb
and gutter so that,the forms can be checked for line and grade and
comparability with existing construction.
The walls and face of all excavations greater than five (5) feet in depth
shall be effiictively guarded by a shoring system: sloping of the
ground or other equivalent means. Trenches or excavations less than
five (5) feet in depth shall also be guarded when examination
indicated that hazardous ground movement may be expected.
The contrattor(s) sh11ll obtain a permit to perfonn excavation or
trench work as des·cribed in No_ 13 above form Cal-Osha.
All storm d,ain, sewer and water pipes shall be bedded per City of
Newport Beach STD-106-L.
VCP sewer pipe may be used in lieu of PVC pipe by special
permission. Pipe shall be manufactured per ASTM-D-3031, SDR-35
or ASTM-F-789_ All fitting shall be prefabricated full-body fittings.
PVC sewer pipe b~dding shall be 3/4" crushed rock from 6" below the
pipe to 12" above the top of pipe and shall be consolidated by jetting
prior to completion of trench backfill.
All concrete shall be 560-C-3250.
All sewer lines to be owned, operated and maintained by the City of
Newport Beach shall be video inspected after cleaning, air testing
and mandrilling. All video inspection shall be performed by the City
Utilities Department. The developer shall pay the current rate
established by the City for video inspection. Any sewer line found to
be installed incorrectly, defective, damaged or otherwise
compromised shall be repaired/replaced and reinspected, including
air test, mandrill and video, prior to inspection.
The Fire Department shall be notified 48 hour's in advance of all lane
closures.
Notification of noncompliance: If, in the course of fulfilling their
responsibility, the civil engineer and testing agency finds that the
work is not being done in conformance with the approved sewer
improvement plans. The discrepancies shall be reported
immediately in writing to the person in charge of the sewer
improvement work and to the Utilities Department.
Recommendations for corrective measures if necessary, shall be
submitted to the Utilities Department for approval.
Erosion Control
1. Temporary erosion control plans arc required from October 15 to May
15_
2. Erosion control devices shall be available on site between October 15
to May 15.
3. Between October 15 and May 15, the contractor shall provide erosion
control measures at the end of each working day whenever the five-
day probability of rain exceeds 30 percent.
Required Inspections
1. • A pre-construction meeting shall be scheduled 48 hours prior to start
of construction with the foliowing people present: Utilities
Department, sewer contractors, design civil engineering, City
inspector or their representatives_ Required field inspections will be
outlined at the meeting.
Documentation
l_ An as-built sewer improvement plan shall be prepared by the
contractor including any deviation from the originals sewer
improvement plan. Contractor(s) shall provide written approval that
the work was done in accordance with the final approved sewer
improvement plan.
