THE NEWPORT BEACH CITY PLANNING COMMISSION met in regular
session, Wednesday, January 15th, 1941, 7.30 p.m. in the
Council Chambers, City Hall, Chairman Johnson.presiding.
Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Commissioners present: Allen, Patterson, Nelson, Seager
Johnson.
Commissioners absent: Hopkins, Findlay, Estus, Williams
Chairman called for consideration of the minutes- of meet-
ing held December 18th, 1940. Com. Patterson moved that
the minutes be approved as written, after correcting the
date to read December 18th, 1940. Seconded by Com. Allen.
Motion carried.
Secretary read the following communications:
Five communioations.received requesting information as to
how the writers' property might be affected by the propos-
ed new ordinance. Secretary instructed to reply to same.
Letter from O.K.Earl, Jr. 900 E. Foothill Blvd. Altadens,
Calif., requesting information regarding whether or not it
will be possible to have a 5 ft, setback on Lot 22, Blk 4,
Section 5, Balboa Island. Secretary was instructed to
write Mr. Earl, giving the requested information..
Letter from Gladys Foster, 524 E. Commonwealth Ave., Full-
erton, Calif. requesting a 5 ft. setback on the back line
of Lot 3, Tract A -33, Corona Del Mar division. Com.Seager
moved that the Secretary write the applicant explaining
existing conditions and further stating that if a variance
is desired, Ordinance 440 must be conformed with. Com.
Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Bill received from American Society of Planning Officials
in the amount of $5.00. Com. Seager advised that he had
already O.K'd the bill and sent it to the. City Council on
the instructions of the Commission.
M INCITES

Resignation of Mildred Stanley read. Com. Patterson moved
it be accepted and a letter forwarded to Mrs. Stanley so-
cepting her resignation and expressing the Commission's ap-
preciation of her work. Seconded by Com. Nelson. Motion
carried.
Application for the position vacated by Mrs. Stanley re-
ceived from Phyllis Williamson, Box 34, Balboa Island.
Com. Johnson suggested that Com. Seager use his own discre-
tion in the selection of Mrs. Stanley's successor, since he
had to work with the Asst. Secretary. Having been asked
for his views, Com. Seager stated that one of the main
requisites in a secretary was one who would be free to work
with him during the day. Com. Patterson moved that the mat-
ter be referred to the Secretary to do as he saw fit and to
report at the next meeting. Seconded by Com. Allen. Motion
carried.

Com. Seeger stated that the News Letters of American Plan-
ning Society contained valuable information and that an-
nual volumes be made of them. Com. Patterson moved that
this plan be followed out. Seconded by Com. Allen. Motion
carried.
Com. Seager told the Commission about the dinner and meet-
ing of the Orange County Planning Council attended by Com.
Patterson and himself at which Com. Patterson spoke on the
subject, "Beach Erosion ". After a discussion of the bene-
fits to be derived by Newport Beach from membership in this
organization, Com. Patterson moved that we send our check
to the Orange County Planning Council. Seconded by Com.
Allen. Motion carried.

of the City Council and the Commission to be held in the
