Nuzum Helen Herrmann MINUTES The Minutes of the meeting of December 19, 196 were approved on motion of Commissioner Clemence, seconded by Commissioner Jakosky, and carried. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** Planning Consultant, Ernest Mayer, Jr., pre- • sented the following item to the Commission. AMENDMENT The Planning Commission considered Amendment A -246 No. 246 which proposes to add Sections to the APPROVED Newport Beach Municipal Code regarding parking requirements for commercial districts. The following persons spoke: Mr. George Woods who owns property at 209 Marine Avenue, Balboa Island stated.that the ordinance as proposed i an imposs.ibil.ity for Balboa Island. 'Mr. Dee Cook of Corona del Mar reviewed various sectio s of the ordinance and stated that it was very severe. Mr. Jack Barnett of the Newport Harbo Chamber of Commerce commended the Commission o the work they had put into the ordinance and thanked them in behalf of the Chamber. Mr. Bernard Whitney of 301 -303 Marine Avenue, Balboa Island stated that he felt that Balboa Island should have some kind of an exception. Mr. Stephen Dunwell who owns property on Balboa Island stated that he felt the island should be exempt from the ordinance. • After a lengthy discussion during which certai sections of the proposed ordinance were amende , the Commission adopted Resolution No. 717 Motion x being Second x All Ayes Page 1. Mr. Olsen was present at the meeting. Acting Director Groth read into the record a letter from Lippold, Henderson and Dinsmoor, attorneys for the owner of the property. Any violation of any of the above stated conditions shall be grounds for immediate revocation of this use permit. AMENDMENT Planning.Consultant, Ernest Mayer, Jr., A -253 addressed the Commission regarding Amendment Continued No. 253 which proposes to amend the provisions until of Chapter 20.50 of the Newport Beach Municipal Feb. 6 Code relating to encroachments into the common open areas and /or changes in the percentage of maximum building coverage requirements in Planned Residential Developments. Mr. Mayer requested that consideration of this amendment be continued until February 6, 1969 Motion x in order to allow staff time to work on some Second x • revisions and come up with a satisfactory All Ayes solution to problems that have been raised. Use Permit 1303 - Shell Oil Company Coast Hwy. and Jamboree Rd. The following persons addressed the Commission Mr. Jack Barnett of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. William Bay, owner of the Mobil station, Mr. Don Brown, owner of the Shell station and Mr. Paul McClary, attorney, representing the Atlantic Richfield station. • After a discussion, the Commission made the following recommendations: Motion Second x x All Aye 1. That one price sign not to exceed 3' x 4' be permitted at each gasoline service station site. Said sign must be approved by.the Irvine Company and Planning Director insofar as materials, colors and location are concerned. 2. That one reasonable sized tire rack be allowed at each station, subject to the approval of the Planning Director. 3. Both of the above items to be allowed at each station for a period of one year or until a new service station ordinance is enacted, whichever occurs first. Mr. Jack Barnett requested that the Chamber of Commerce be given a draft of the proposed service station ordinance. 2. Woodruff 1. requested that the Commission clarify certain ambiguities which exist as to the conditions for parking imposed on Resubdivision 71 approved September 18, 1958 and Resubdivision 114 approved February 4, 1960.
