Present: Longmoor, Briggs, Lind, Copelin, Hayton, Rudd & Reed Absent Smith & Keene Commissioner Rudd moved the Commission approve the calling of this special meeting by Mr. Walter Longmoor, Chairman, seconded by Commissioner Reed and carried by the following roll call vote, to wit: ALL AYES. Presented to the Commission was a copy of Use Variance No. 3495 forwarded, upon request, by the Orange County Planning Commission for a recommendation by the Newport Beach Planning Commission. This application, executed by G.E. Kadane and Sons,requests: • permission to drill an oil well on the Banning properties, the location described as follows; 175 feet north of Coast Highway and 640 feet west of Superior Avenue. Considerable discussion was held regarding this application with the following persons speaking against the drilling of oil on the Banning properties: Dr. David I,Nielsen, Dr. Thomas P. Reeder, Edward T. Healey, James Edwards & Mrs. Duncan Stewart. Mr. Jim Gilstrap, representing the Kadane interests, stated the oil well would be a test and if proved to be profitable other _wells would be drilled in this same area. Commissioner Hayton moved the Commission prepare a resolution setting forth the disapproval, and reasons therefore, of Use Variance No. 3495 and forward to the City Council for their recommendation to the Orange County Board of Supervisors, - seconded by Commissioner Reed and carried by the following roll call vote, to wit,: ALL AYES. Resolution No. 608 was prepared and forwarded to the City Council on February 11, 1957. Said resolution is hereby incorporated by reference and hereby made a part hereof as though set forth in full. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
